What do you do when you need a "Hole in the Chest" effect? DUH! Build a "GORE BOX"....obviously!!!! I never thought I'd see the day when we'd need some called a "Gore Box" for an effect, but...what else would you expect for a "Hole in the Chest" effect?
You have got to be kidding! Do you think it can get any more difficult. I am so amazed at all the directions and supplies...there has just got to be an easier way...how about special effects it in. Just paint the stomach green or blue and chroma key it out and create the special effects in After Effects...a lot easier...I think.
This is a good way to start out, but this technique would be difficult if you needed to move the hole elsewhere. I think most of the special effects for this would have to be done in Photoshop and After effects, using finger paint is something that I had not thought of, you can then blast a hole through someones head with a mini green screen! KAZAA!
Yeah, I think your right! if I wasn't to approach this digitally, like I said above, I would do the makeup on the belly, and than maybe glue the ribs on to the belly and then fill in the rest with blue paint. That would have made things a lot easier and gives you the freedom to move anywhere without motion tracking or frame by frame placement.

it looks cool but i is complicated and you mast be steady, what means that you can't shoot any action then it is not realistic
if someone makes hole in your chest you wouldn't just stay still.
Honestly, I did not like this episode at all. WAY too complicated for a "weekend" extra. And honestly, the final effect didn't look that good at all. If I wanted to do this effect, I would have approached it digitally with After Effects and Photoshop. Also yes, mentioning the use of motion tracking would have been better. Also, who stands perfectly still when they have a gaping hole in your chest!?!??!
don't listen to the people telling you to use photoshop or the people who say they can do a better job. it may be a lot of work for an effect that'll only be shown for a couple seconds, but i for one think it's a great payoff because it looks really cool.
that is so stupid cost a lot and not look real if I will you, I will simply draw on photoshop and use after effect to apply. The way u use can't use for motion.
i definitely would like to see more explanations of camera angles and lighting affects. and even the editorial process. maybe how to set moods of clips and stuff using the proper music and what not. HOOK IT UP!
Very clever, the only advise that could be given is give more attention to proper anatomy (cause viewers rip things to shreds) but the idea is very well thought out. Thanks Indy Mogul!
Hey this video was great.. But wouldn't of it been easier being that the shot was locked down to just draw the hole in photoshop and then just tracked in on his chest... Then the cost would of been free!!!! I mean the hole you made looked GREAT and I could use a lot of the techniques to create other bloody things, but I could see glare on his chest from the blue paint and you even mention that you might have to track it.
menacestudios, I suppose if you are good at photoshop, you could create an immage that looks like a hole in the guts, but then you could do the lovely effect of blood dripping from the asophagus as i did in the film that uses this effect. You don't have to say its an esophagus, you could say its an aorta and have lots of blood gushing out of it.
