Could you post some build plans for this? Its really cool but its easer to look at paper when building something then to keep rewinding it get all of the information.

i totally think that the jib arm is awsom in the past all i have used is a broom stick plastic bag and duck tape but this seems more camera freindly . thanks

This really AWESOME guys, I've been looking for some time now on how to rig one of these bad boys up, SO THANX, however do you have any work instructions / blue prints that I can print out?? That would be way cool.

It's a lot easier, (and lighter) to find an old speaker tripod. I picked one up for a couple bucks at a yard sale. Then you just build the crane part out of aluminum piping. Instead of a lazy suesan I spent the majority of my money to buy a hefty fluid head that I just bolted to the speaker tripod.

it really disappoints me to see you guys using auto focus.

Hey guys, great episode. Could you make some build plans to go with it. Anyway, keep up the good work ;)

I started making this in separate parts (because I saw you are going to release modifications etc) and I was wondering if its possible to make an extendable piece making te base pole higher. I was thinking of using 4 1/2" thick pieces of wood for the base and make a hollow square out of them. Then drill holes every 1/2" or 1"  on that piece and the fitting piece. Now, this wont change too much of the effect, but I think it would be very nice for fine tuning.

Dude I cannot believe you guys built a jib!  And a decent one at that!  So the next question is, if I'm too lazy to build my own then how much does it cost to rent :)

With all the tension on the pivoting bolts (with bolts pounded through undersized holes) doesn't this contraption have a really high "squeak" and "shudder" potential? What kind of options are there for lubricating the joints to make the movement smoother/quieter?

That was pretty awesome.  It takes some practice to get the thing to work right but it sure works well.  There are quite a few videos on YouTube of people using their cranes and lots of sites online about cranes and jib arms and making them for cheap and whatnot.  Nice job guys.  I love the last question in the test film.  Nice one, Steve.

years old and ive wanted to be a film maker since the age of 3. i would really like you to show how to make  a grinch costume because im directing the school christmas play and i need a uber cheap one. especially the body with the fur that would be really hard. im going tro use  latex for the face. the body could help many other people too for apes and sasqautchesetc hope you help me

really creative idea...the only downfall though is that you wont be able to tilt the camera angle at all though so once the camera is higher than the actor/actress you will lose them...but then the crane is only 80 dollars...and might i say for the job on what that can do...80 dollars is cheap

it's quite direction-heavy and we're gonna get working on it really soon. (but first we're all gonna go pass out for a while)
