Snorricam was definitely not created by Aronofsky. It was made by Einar Snorri and Eiður Snorri in the 60s.

"A device created by Requiem for a Dream Director Darren Aronofsky" Erm, guys... it's called a 'Snorri Cam' because it was inspired by Einar and Eidur Snorri (not related) and I'm pretty sure it was used in Scorsese's Mean Streets (1974) so I'd re-think this created by Darren Aronofsky statement. Anyway, good effort with the tutorial but you should really just play your on screen personas 'straight'. It was kinda annoying to watch even though it was obviously helpful to a lot of people.

Hey guys thanks for the comments. First thing to address: The echo. Very sorry about that, sound is usually one of the elements of production that I value most- the "workshop" was really in my garage, and outside, there were insects making extremely loud noise, so we figured it would be better to leave the garage doors closed and block out the bugs than the viewers having to endure that incredibly annoying sound. The echo was a price to pay, in some shots you can hear the bugs if you listen carefully. Also, we realize that you can easily accomplish the same ultimate goal with a tripod, however, we think that the actor shouldn't have to take on the role of cinematographer as well; by having your hands completely free, you no longer have to worry about getting the shot, its pretty much guaranteed to do what you want if you make it right, leaving the actor to do his/her job without worry. not only is that the same robe from fight club, it is also the robe worn by tv's fran drescher in "the nanny" and has cameoed on many other television shows. seriously, that specific robe is an inside joke in the film industry for wardrobe people.

That was pretty sweet. I think I'll modify the plans a bit to make a smaller one for my XL-1. Good tutorial though guys, the only suggestion I'd have is try to be a bit clearer on the instructions maybe (even though I got them, they might have been hard to follow at first) and try using a different audio capturing method in the big workshop room (it was crazy echoey). Nice job though, great tip, thanks a lot!

im gonna try to make one of these for my first movie which i intend to have be a war movie if possible

i'm tempted to make one of those, but lower the camera and face it forward to have a body-mounted camera (i'm sure there's a proper name for that, i'm only a high schooler - don't hate) but yeah it would be sick then you wouldnt have to worry about shaky camera from holding the camera, and you wouldnt have to constantly move your tripod.

Dude, at first they looked like 2 twelve year olds but then I heard their voice and I was like woah.... Anyways, The echo in the "workshop" was really annoying. Either shoot in a small room, outside, or get an external mic. :)

this was good info, but as napalmjerry1391 stated, a tri-pod can do the same thing. You need a tall one, and perhaps a way to make sure that the camera follows a straight track, this way may also seem bumpy when watched. plus, with a tripod, you can use different camera angles with different cameras at once, there is nothing on the actor's body to make them look unusual

dude, they should be regulars! are they replacing steve for weekend extra? i don't want steve gone but if he moves to backroof fx and these guys take over weekend extra i wouldn't mind at all!
