    NICE!

I've forgotton what I was going to say, but Great episode.
BTW, could you tell us more about what the little squares do with the motion tracking. I never really understood what they were and how to use them.
Also, you could have mentioned how if you were tracking between two objects in a scene to say, add sunglasses on a guy. If you moved the camera and one of the objects went off camera you can pick a different track point.

(I haven't got Pro, but I look at tutorials for this kind of thing when I upgrade)

  • Justinsuperstar wrote in reply on January 11, 4:11 pm

Some good points, I wanted to keep it pretty simple, I'm not sure how the multiple track points things work. I've only figured out what I have from messing around with the program.

Thank you! It means a lot to me, Learned from tutorials and just screwing around in the software :)

OH my god i feel silly, answered the wrong one :S

  • Aaron (guest) wrote in reply on April 18, 4:37 am

The smaller box is the obect to track and the bigger box is where it looks for the point, eg. on a very shaky shot, you would use bigger search areas

  • Felix (anon) wrote on January 11, 4:09 pm

Cool vid, helped me alot. I thought people like, did this Frame By frame. But greately NOT! :)

By the way, Does Vegas pro 6.0 have the feature to Motion track?

  • uhrisuh wrote on January 11, 4:14 pm

This episode was really great! nice job justin!

  • Arnar wrote on January 11, 4:16 pm

After Effects is amazing, Here's a few videos I've made using the motion tracker in AE.

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=BKyWfnw5p0Q
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=-3ArrpTQ8sw

Also, if you have a 3d program you can always get a 3d tracker and make your self a fake friend, example:

  • billcammack wrote on January 11, 4:19 pm

    LOLOL Hilarious! :D

    Cool tutorial also!

  • Tony Bullard wrote on January 11, 4:42 pm

This is easily one of the best episodes made in a while. Not just because of the information, but because the time and effort put in. Eric is great and all, but having the tutorial placed into a plotline (no matter how silly) and then see it used in the film itself is a really cool way to do it.

    Kudos!

  • FreshMentos wrote on January 11, 9:08 pm

Hey Justin, great tutorial! I just wanted to add that you can purchase After Effects for relatively cheap with an education discount through academicsuperstore.com. You need to buy a liscense though to make money off of your work.

    P.S.
If someone already mentioned this, my bad.

  • Scott wrote on January 11, 9:35 pm

Thanks for being cheerleaders for After Effects again. Thanks so much. Next week is Mac week, right?

  • Justinsuperstar wrote in reply on January 12, 3:57 am

I did say you can also do this in Motion!

I would have explained it, but my copy is all screwed up. And it's not like we don't pimp Macs - we use Macs for everything dude!

Awesome Weekend Extra. It was a really useful tutorial.

And I love the whole joke about the Gorilla Hospital.

I just have one complaint....calling Steve a "guest star". Since when is Steve a GUEST star on Weekend Extra?

Not that I'm complaining. Justin did a GREAT job hosting this week. It was a nice change of pace. :)

  • microman171 wrote on January 12, 12:30 am

Wow! Justin you did a realy good job of that. Indymogul should let you off Q and Erik and you should do your own show

  • LoganZX wrote on January 12, 5:42 am

This tutorial is alot of help :-)

My true comment is to say that I reconized the light box in the last scene of this video is the same light box I bought from a local hobby shot. I use it for my animations, but I see you guys use it for your X-ray viewer... I give you guys so much prop for that :-D

  • Pete359 wrote on January 12, 6:21 am

  • Mokatari (anon) wrote on January 13, 4:13 am

    Hello friends!
And first of all. After Effects use only Pixel Tracking NOT Object Tracking !! Using pixel tracking technology you can add other 2D materials. And all trackers must be seen trough tracking. That is not so perfect, thats why you should know something more about programs for CAMERA TRACKING.
If someone want to put a 3D object into his shot (added in postproduction) he will use special programs for Camera Tracking! Like Boujou or PFtrack.
Anyone interesting in it ? (how it works, see this software in action, some good final results)

  • kennyboy13 wrote on January 13, 6:39 am

    OMG THAT WAS BRILLIANT!!!!!

Do they have motion tracking on Adobe Premiere Pro? You would believe that it would, but I have yet to locate that particular effect.

Ultimately, I have just been using green screen to pull that stuff off.

  • Lorenz Heinrich wrote on February 13, 1:59 pm
