you could make a prosthetic to attach w/ liquid latex and spirit gum and use metallic paint
not great...good on him 4 tryn and i supose indy mogul is all about the sharing of ideas but this could have been shown on the forum, there was no need to use up a weekend extra on it!!!

need to paint the sword to give a more real look. but over all an effect that is not very easily applied to a movie because you are never going to need a guy standing up and walking around with a sword in him. i didnt need a video to tell me how to do this

No, I think this was a cool tutorial and a good expreience for the guy doing it. I'm sure someone was sitting down one day racking their brains for this idea and now they have the solution. Nice work kid, keep it up. ;D
I think I've made it pretty clear that the point of Weekend Extra is to meet the needs of every filmmaker from young to old. If you have a problem with a tutorial because it's not good enough, you only have yourself to blame for not submitting a better one. And if you already have, then I guess I didn't see it. But I think this kid did a great job, but if you disagree, then let's see how good YOU are at making tutorials...I'm waiting.

You're right, Steve, but the problem is the overall maturity level on the community. I swear it's getting worse than RantMedia, and in places I'd rather register to talk on ebaumsworld than bother to try and discuss things with the level of idiocy some people are showing as of late. =/

remember folks, some of the best make up and effects people in hollywood started out doing suff just like what this kid has submitted. And who would argue with them about it?.......give the kid some support and many kudos for thinking outside the box and trying something.

Nice job kid. That looks better than the stab I did for my senior project movie in High School, so props.
I know Steve might seem like he's only 10, but remember that most of us working at Indy Mogul are alot older/have professional backround/experience.
the idea was good but the it could be improved the sword didnt stick straight liek it should but once again it was a very good idea....and see people thats called constructive cristisism...(or however u spell it)

Maybe we could steer clear of the violent FX for a wee bit. It just seems like every week we get a new way to dismember or other wise mutilate one another. How about some great tutorials on how to do the more fundamental things associated with filmmaking.
I think Steve pretty much just owned all of you guys who say that this was a crappy tutorial. It wasn't filmed to HD quality but it's a really good idea. And I agree with Stephen (anon), I think it would be cool to see a little bit more equipment builds than props and effects

honestly, guys just shut up. this kid did fine, i know that i may never use this effect either, but plenty of effects on this site are like that. there is someone out there who will use this, just because you will not dont get all pissed about it. give everyone their chance to shine. like steve said, none of you sent in anything better.

I think you could use armature or some kind of wire to wrap around instead of string, and to make it more straight.

You can also gut the sword with a hack saw if your sword is one peice, or if you want the depth off the cut adjusted.

hmm, it's actually a pretty cool effect. Simple, but still pretty realistic. I'm sure that w/ a better looking sword and blood fx it could look pretty sick.
sorry but it was kinda lame, short, uninformative, mumbly and a waste of time...
If he keeps all of the sword like that, then it implies that the sword has got longer on stabbing someone. He should cut away a foot or so of the sword blade to represent the blade passing through your body which can't be seen.

i think it would be better to use epoxy or glue instead of tape to put the sword on the belt. also, you should use this in combination with the swords from the ninja episodes, to make them look more real. be creative.
great work, hes a kid and this is actually a great effect and exactly how the pros would do this. Im a aspirng amatuer fx artist so trust me this is great lil cheesey but genius.
i always just found it easier to find some hobo that you could just really stab with.
