Good job steve-o, get some sleep mate.

  • microman171 wrote on December 21, 3:44 pm

If your camera DOESNT have mic input... what can you do to get good audio??

  • ericanxiety wrote in reply on December 21, 3:50 pm

This is covered in the last Q and Erik before the holiday one. Erik suggests some alternatives like using a mini-disc recorder and then clapping the sound so that you can get synch.

  • seven6pro wrote on December 21, 3:58 pm

Have and use the Canon HV20 and LOVE IT!! Nice episode Steve.

  • tb9 wrote on December 21, 4:34 pm

    YAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys talked about the DVX!
I worked at a camera shop, and scrimped and saved for almost a year, and lasat summer I finally got one.
Being only 15, I was really happy, escpecialy because I got it at a great deal- $900 used but in perfect condition.

I would totally agree with the review, its an amazing camera, and even SD with that camera is better than HD on those little ones. The optics on the small ones can't get enough light in to accuraltley capture image coming in. With so much info for such a little sensor, you get a ton of noise on small cameras.

I recomend you moguls get one!

  • InternWally wrote in reply on December 22, 2:08 am

The DVX kicks ass, but it's not a Sony V1U lol.

  • Jesse Gouldsbury wrote on December 21, 4:35 pm

I have the 100B and I love it. It was defiantly worth the money. My teacher talks a lot about B and H but I haven't got a chance to go there yet. Its supposed to be a pretty rad place.

  • Andres wrote in reply on December 27, 1:46 pm

b&h is like santa's workshop run by a bunch of hasidic jews. it's an experience - all the merchandise is moved within the store on conveyor belts suspended from the ceiling. i kid you not.

  • ATBStudios wrote on December 21, 4:43 pm

  • napalmjerry1391 wrote on December 21, 11:10 pm

I have the VDR and i just plug it in and nothing else has to be done. i didn't download anything for that camera. Its because you guys use crappy macs.

  • barb9 wrote in reply on December 22, 1:11 pm

Crappy macs? Is that a challenge?

  • Hat wrote in reply on December 22, 8:39 pm

Macs are anything but crappy sir. Do your research.

  • Skuzz (anon) wrote on December 21, 11:27 pm

The pany sounds like an awesome cam. Some of that low light footage would've been nice to show. In all honesty, most camcorders under good daylight, look quite exceptional, low light is where the cam's truly shine.

If possible, lets see some low light footage Steve.

  • Iris Van Entertainment wrote on December 22, 12:18 am

    Iris Van >San?< Entertainment
    -lol-
I might just add that to the studio's name. Thanks Steve!

  • Iris Van Entertainment wrote in reply on December 22, 12:22 am

Great episode! I was really anticipating this one. I'm defineately going to get an HV20 now.

  • tonz0phun wrote on December 22, 5:41 am

I've got a comment on the HV20 in low light.

You can trick the camera to have better low light abilities if you use your cell phone. All you need to do is have a pic on your phone that is 25% black (gray, lol). Put the phone lcd right on the lens and use the Evaluate White Balance, you can trick the camera to really open up and allow more light in during dim light situations.

  • Maxster35 wrote on December 22, 11:53 am

The Panasonic DVX100B is the camera 'Smosh' use!

  • ethic-aesthetic-films wrote on December 22, 1:16 pm

I just got the panasonic vdr-310, i found it so hard to export the footage to an editing program(i use adobe premiere pro) When i tried to export the files to premiere it would come up with errors, wrong file type or whatever. So i checked the net and realised i need to shoot in VR setting rather than Video setting and then instead of exporting straght to premiere you have to export it to a program that comes with the camera (you get three different programmes but i cant remember the name of it, sorry) and then export that to your computer, this changes the format of the footage and makes it ready to import into premiere(or whatever proggramme you use)

but that took me ages to work out, the panasonic instruction manual sucked.

i do understand what steve was saying but if you follow these instructions it should be okay...it just takes a while to import footage really.

  • Adam (anon) wrote on December 22, 2:08 pm

Wow. lol. I have a DVX100B. The best camera on the list. wow..... I got mine for $2,200 new. I do like the camera, the footage does look really professional. I ordered my 35mm adaptor (Letus35 Economy and Nikon 50mm f1.4 lens =$1,000), which gives the camera a great film DOF (depth of field) look. but I did want to go HD. Once I get the money, I will sell the DVX100B and get the Canon XH A1.

  • gcubedproductions wrote in reply on February 20, 12:50 pm

Let me know when you want to sell it... I want a DVX100B sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo badly!

  • Cityscape Pictures wrote on December 23, 7:00 am

I recently bought a camera, the EasyPixel DVC 5012. It cost me about $140 from eBay with postage, its 12 Megapixle and is compact and lightweight. You just hook it up to your PC via USB technology and drag and drop your videos and pictures into your selected file. It has a sensore which removes jerky-nessin video and is very smooth, but doesnt have a microphone or headphone jack but does have an AV out to connect to your TV. The picture quiality is exellent but the sound needs a little work, but it comes equipt with a voice recorder. You can change the colour from normal to sepia tone or to black and white, you can change the size from 640X400 to 320X240. You can change he white Balance, EV Compensation, and quality. The photo camera has a timer with a maximum of 30 seconds, flash and all the other functions of the video camera. You can also use its 20 megabyte internal memory along with an SD Card, plus you can use it as a webcam.

  • phish wrote in reply on December 25, 9:45 am

^ You should go for the sony HC7... It records to HDV on mini-dv instead of AVCHD (like the sr7) which has less quality than HDV.

for christmas i asked for a video camera, and i got whats called a flip video. i also got adobe premiere elements 6.0. The reason i wanted a camera is so that i could enter a youtube contest, the casio exlim contest where you show off your house. unfortunately, somewhere between me shooting on the flip video, and the editing of the footage, it became a file type that youtube couldnt use. do you have any idea what could have happened? thanks.

P.S. i know that the flip video isnt exactly a professional camcorder, but it is all i have right now.

  • Ben Fox wrote on January 16, 10:07 pm

The Panasonic GS320 is supposed to be a replacement for the GS300 but it's essentially the same camera with the mic input stripped off!
We film our podcast using TWO panasonic GS300s, we loved the first one so much that we got another. In low light it's a bit grainy but for the £280/£235 that we paid for our two we're willing to let that slide, especially as the low light stuff we do film tends to be at parties or clubs, it's only when we film the main talk segment of our show in low light that it's noticeable - in which case it's our fault for being lame with the lighting!
