    Hi Steve Nice arms!
    Good info, Thanks !
I wonder If I can be first on youtube as well???

  • Jonei wrote on September 14, 2:12 pm

Great tips, steve! You're the man!
But how about giving tips about other important things, such as which lens to use or different camera heights. You know, those things any director should know about. Just the basics.
And keep up the good work!

  • Walucas wrote on September 14, 6:01 pm

Can't you substitute the clamp lights with aluminum foil and a regular clamp? oh and a bulb socket.

  • dizzy wrote on September 14, 9:00 pm

  • Clintus McGintus wrote on September 15, 4:37 am

Lighting is so important. Great episode.

  • steve nelson wrote on September 15, 12:25 pm

I've lived outside of NYC my whole life!

  • FyceDesigns wrote on September 15, 1:12 pm

Thanks Steve! I seriously need to go buy a 25$ light kit now. Especially since my movies' quality levels go significantly lower just because of poor lighting.

if you lived in NYC all your life did u fly to california like every week?

  • drumsofdoom wrote on September 15, 3:43 pm

lol! I bet he emails eric the films

  • Euro83 wrote on September 15, 9:16 pm

How good is the QUALITY of the lighting...I find in dark areas where we want light that even with 3 lamps you cant get a good visual on the character...these clamp lights really work...is that what you use in your films?

  • Jason wrote on September 16, 12:37 am

You should have touched more on light diffusion. There were lots of "hot spots" (no, not the wi-fi)

  • uhrisuh wrote on September 16, 2:23 am

yeah jason i agree ... a lot of spots were over exposed .. maybe try using a lower watt bulb or setting the lights back a bit ... that's the thing with cheap lighting .. sometimes it looks cheap ... If i were to spend big bucks on any thing it would be a travel lighting kit ..

  • spicysmoke wrote on September 16, 2:26 am

Thanks Steve it was wicked awesome, im trying to get some lights but in New Zealnad they are a bit more expensive. These practical weekend extras are totally useful.

  • adam_omega4 wrote on September 16, 8:56 pm

    hey this video was awesome!!
i imagin that it will help a lot in the future but i can't seem to find "true color bulbs" anywhere!

    any suggestions?

  • steve nelson wrote on September 16, 10:00 pm

As far as diffusion and other more in depth things with lighting go, I'm sure we'll cover them in the future. But as for this episode, we're just trying to cover the basics for the guys and gals who don't even know where to begin with lighting.

I got all this stuff in home depot. The great thing about clamp lights, is that if they don't do enough for you, you can always add another one for 7 bucks.

For Jason and Uhrisuh, if you guys want to share some tips for lighting or anything else, you can also submit videos to us. We'd love to include them in future episodes of IMWE!

    Thanks everyone!

  • echeese wrote on September 18, 6:20 pm

I like shooting during overcast, it stops harsh shadows because the clouds help diffuse the sunlight

  • chris cordova wrote on September 23, 5:00 pm

i was wondering what that song was in the blue lighting samble
    please reply

  • Cityscape Pictures wrote on September 24, 5:30 pm

Very cool, really helpful, thanks Indy Mogul

  • thespiansRus wrote on October 4, 12:09 am

    Nice!
You also could have brought up reflectors when you were on the subject of outdoor filming...
they can be made with some poster board and tin foil.

  • danielriddle wrote on October 16, 9:51 pm

that was preety cool but passion would be light to dark pink

  • Scott wrote on October 20, 3:15 am

Where did you purchase your True Color bulbs?

  • Scott wrote on October 20, 3:16 am

    Nevermind

  • grosenblum wrote on October 27, 2:41 am

These were really great tips, but I need more. Do a part 2 with night filming and what not.

  • Lord wrote on December 9, 7:11 pm

    Yes! DO IT!!!

  • sickness inc. productions wrote on November 1, 5:07 pm

hey steve i know a cheaper way to get color effects get piece of cardboard about three times the size of your light holder cut a squar in middle and tape colored plastic wrap to it tape coat hanger on top and tape hanger to where the light is placed make sure to leave about a foot between lights get hot and keep added more plastic wrap till u get desired color filter and for lights that are not behind the camera say to the side just curve cardboard till all other light is gone and only colored light is left u can get colored plastic wrap for about a buck so for the 4 dollars u spent on 1 bulb u can buy 3 or 4 different colors

  • Hejhog101 wrote on December 29, 3:33 pm

I really couldn't tell that there was a blue light shining on the lonely guy

  • SFXSage303 wrote on February 23, 9:44 pm

    Hey Steve! Inspiring stuff!
I'm a long time viewer, but first time poster. I was just wondering, are those true color bulbs the same as reveal bulbs? What wattage is good for shooting? What wattage should the clamp lights be safely rated for? Aren't more watts(for both bulbs and clamp lights)equal to more light? Right?!? Anyways, I'm looking forward to future webisodes of the Indy Mogul Gang. Thanks.

  • jwalshson09 wrote on February 29, 3:07 am

where can you get true color light bulbs
i cant find them on the internet or at walmart

  • giallo smith (guest) wrote on October 3, 12:31 pm

mmmh.. make a video about light and then much of the shooting in the video are over exposed.... you have good intentions, and probably could achieve far better results...
