  • Wesley's Weekly HOW TO: Prop Safe

POSTED BY WESLEY SCOGGINS, JULY 02 2008 12:07 PM | PERMALINK

So you are making a spy caper film, and you need a safe for the secret file/launch codes/microfilm for your agent to crack open with a laser. And/or you really want to pull a Bugs Bunny and drop a safe on your friends head, BUT you realized that REAL safes are expensive and/or dangerously heavy, and you need a prop to fill it's place? Well worry no more, because i'm going to show you how to make you're own prop safe for whatever safey needs you might have.

  • Wesley's Weekly HOW TO: Hazardous Material Canister

POSTED BY WESLEY SCOGGINS, JUNE 11 2008 09:36 PM | PERMALINK

This week I am going to cover a staple of the Mad Scientists lab, the Hazardous Material Canister. It can hold just about any horrible perversion of nature and science that a Mad Scientist can imagine, from horrible mutagens, to radioactive goos, and even the occasional horrible radioactive mutagenic goo. And i'm going to show you how to make your own to have in your laboratory without getting some kind of exotic cancer or turning into a swamp creature.

  • Wesley's Weekly HOW TO: Clapperboard

POSTED BY WESLEY SCOGGINS, JUNE 04 2008 12:10 AM | PERMALINK

Clapperboards, one of the first things people expect to see when they see a film production happening, they can be invaluable for the serious filmmaker. Not only do they help you sync your sound to your film source if you're using an external recorder, but they can be so important in helping you keep your project organized.

I got a piece of wood that I obtained at the hardware store for about 3 dollars, I am using only about a 5th of the stick for both of the 10 inch segments I cut...

  • Wesley's Weekly HOW TO: Grappling Hook

POSTED BY WESLEY SCOGGINS, MAY 14 2008 07:03 PM | PERMALINK

We've all at one time or another looked at something tall, and dreamed about scaling up it with easy using our trusty Ninja Grappling hook we have hooked to our utility belt. Only to collapse into a pile of blubbering tears when we realize that not only is our utility belt missing, but we might just be going crazy because we believed for just a moment that we did indeed have the skills and equipment to scale a building. Well I can't help you find your missing utility belt/sanity, but I can...

Yes I know, I am still, as we say indisposed, with a variety of things going on right now. But really this isn't a bad thing, because Indy Mogul's own Arissa Beck, made up a wonderful tutorial that she rightly deserves mad props for.

  • Wesley's Weekly HOW TO Presents... Steam Punk Goggles

POSTED BY WESLEY SCOGGINS, APRIL 09 2008 03:06 PM | PERMALINK

This week I am unfortunately busy with some personal projects, but in my place I bring you a guest blog by forum user Trspballer7, he made these great goggles, and I think they deserved to be shared. I should be back next week with a tutorial of my own, but I am always open to taking user submitted tutorials so people can see your hard work.                                           Swing by the thread here, and submit your own tutorial, and if it's good enough, I might post it up soon! But for now,...

  • Wesley's Weekly HOW TO: Shrunken Head

POSTED BY WESLEY SCOGGINS, FEBRUARY 20 2008 01:16 PM | PERMALINK

This week, I am covering a recent request from the forums, Shrunken Heads!

Start with a foam ball same as with the ends of the fake bone from a few weeks ago.

Begin forming it into a vague human facial structure, it helps to maybe look up a few reference photos of shrunken heads and skeletal structures so you can start to get the basic anatomy right. But push in the sides, and the eye sockets, and pinch for the nose, and push in a little for the mouth, and you've got the basic shape ready.
