The Voice is Gone...

POSTED BY Wesley Scoggins, 02 September 2008

This is indeed a sad day for movie fans the world over, because the voice, THE MAN, that we all knew so well, has passed away. Don LaFontaine, well known as "The Movie Trailer Guy", died yesterday from a blood clot in his lungs.

But lets not think of how he died right now, but lets remember him for how he lived. He began his career as a Recording Engineer and an Editor, working on trailers, but his claim to fame was discovered in 1964 when while working on "Gunfighters of Casa Grande" he had to fill in for an absent voice artist, getting himself noticed, and soon propelling him to fame for his voice.

His deep rich voice is one that could make any trailer automatically sound better, and I have many fond memories of sitting in the theater as a child, hearing his voice again, and wondering just exactly who he was. Well now, older and wiser, I know who he was, a true part of history, someone whose voice we will always remember and who'll live on in our hearts.

Wow, I'm very sad. As you can all tell this video was the inspiration for my own voice over demo video, and Don LaFontain was a great inspiration to me. there are certain people who when they pass on seem to make the world a very different place, as if time can be measured as "Before, and after" The world will definately be a different place "After" Don Lafontain.

If Heaven has a film department, his voice will go on for eternity.

Wow! I didn't know the man but somehow I feel very sad. It's as if a part of me just died. Watching movies will never be the same again. R.I.P. Mr. LaFontaine. Thanks for all the memories!
