Remembering a Legend: Stan Winston 1946-2008
One of the greats in Film Making passed this Sunday, at the age of 62. Stan Winston is and was one of, if not the greatest Visual Effects artists who ever lived, and was central to some of the most well known and beloved creatures in some of the biggest films of all time. His creations and innovations are to many to list in a reasonable amount of space, but he is well known for the effects he contributed to the Teriminator Films, Jurrasic Park, Aliens, Predator, and Edward Scissorhands.
Stan Winston was and still is, what almost every person with a hunger for special effects and film making strives to be like, and whose success they wish to emulate. His films are still the golden standard in many respects for what movie magic can accomplish, and should be something watched closely by all of those that appreciate Effects Artistry.
He passed away at his home, peacefully, surrounded by his family. He is gone, but his memory and artistry will live on forever in the magic he brought to life.
Goodbye Stan, you'll be missed.
