where can i pick up the foam for the shell? can i get it at home depot?

Did anyone else have a problem with the p.v.c and a.b.s pipe portion of the gun? In the video Zack stated you needed the 4 inch cuplings, 4 inch a.b.s pipe and the 3 inch pipe to make up most of the gun but the 4 inch pipe didn't fit in the cupling. after looking at the blueprints I came to the conclusion that Zack must have meant 4 inch cuplings, 3 inch pipe and 2 inch pipes. they fit the picture like it did in the video. Just if anyone else had the same problem and it would be nice to get a reply from Zack explaining whether it was a mistake in the video or if i just screwed up

2 questions: 1- What tool should I use for cutting the 3" coupling? A basic dee el bit doesn't work too well. 2- What tool should I use to cut the foam? Again, dee el doesn't work.

where can I find ABS tubing? I can't seem to find anywhere around here. (I'm in Tennessee) Also none of the links for the stencils of the foam portion work. Does anyone have one that does?

Zack, Did you by chance spray paint the 3" PVC coupling? I assumed it was ABS since it was black when it showed up at the Shopping list part... Still, even so, I can't fit the 4" coupling onto the 3" pipe! There's only one inch there. Seems it will fall right off, even with glue.

can you show us how to do the special effects for the portal gun, like shooting it and it hitting the wall and making a portal and see whats on the other side of it.

i'll be honest, i like Erik's teaching ways better than Zach's. and that's no offense to Zach. it's just i prefer Eriks ways of teaching.

Just joined nextnewnetworks so I'm new to commenting. Never thought of using foam for the shell part of the Portal gun. Wish I could try this build but I'm tied up building a minigun.

I used pvc too, and at first the proportions seemed wrong. but now that i'm pretty far along, i can tell that it's going to be fine.
Also, i really wish that the templates for the shells were here, but after enough trial and error it's not that difficult to get the right shape by yourself. While it is a pain (Have a list of expletives and know how to use them) it turned out fine for me.

I picked up some PVC piping and the proportions are very different than the video. Is the shopping list correct?  Specifically, the 3 inch and 4 inch tubes don't look right.  I'm inclined to start over.

it would be cool if you put a apeture stamp on the gun with a barcode too :D

I am also very interested in seeing the pattern template used to create the white foam outer shell.

could you post the pattern you made for the shells? I could work off of the  awesome blueprints and guestimate how to cut it out but... I rather it be as close to correct as possible
