Wesley's Weekly HOW TO: CSI-Style Blood Evidence

Most people are probably familiar with this one, the scene investigators are looking for blood, and when they can't find any visible blood, they search for traces that have been wiped up by spraying Luminol around and getting out their UV wands. Well I can show you how to replicate the CSI "glowing blood evidence" trick really cheaply and easy, all you need is a black light!

First, start with a thickening agent, this could be shampoo, corn syrup, glycerine, or a host of other stuff. It's a good idea to use something water based like KY Jelly, because it dries out, and more importantly is it dries clear, which is exactly what you want, because otherwise it'll be visible BEFORE you turn on the UV Lamp.

After picking the thickener you want, add the secret ingredient, TONIC WATER. You can find it at most super-markets, the quinine in it flouresces when exposed to UV light, and it's really cheap and safe to use.

And as you can see floresces a bright blue when hit with the UV lamp. (Without any thickening agent, I am sure this could also be used as some kind of mad scientist concoction, IIRC this is what they used in Eddie Murphy's "The Nutty Professor").

Then, to make the hand-shaped splatter in the beginning, I just dipped my hand in it and splattered it on. Get a brush of something for splatters and the like, and you can just kind of make it a mess on whatever surface you're working on.

It's pretty strong, and even just the residue beaded on my skin glows pretty powerfully. But there you go, a cheap way to do your very own crime scene blood evidence effect. If you've got any questions hit the submit box down below!
