Indy Mogul Week In Review
OK. Before we get started, let me explain what this week in review encompasses. Justin Johnson was kind enough to ask me to write a blog post about the 10 second promo campaign Indy Mogul is doing. They were getting a lot of submissions and the majority wouldn't be making it onto the show. Not wanting to stifle all the feedback, he smartly decided to blog about it. Which is where I came in. After doing the initial blog post, I saw all these other submissions, and convinced Justin to let me do a post each week with submissions that probably weren't going to make it on the show. Hence, the Indy Mogul Week in Review.
A couple more things. Don't forget you can submit your videos HERE (or just indymogul.com/submit), and should do your part to help the Red Cross in Haiti by going to nextnewnetworks.com/helpnow or text "Haiti" to 90999. If a blogger who makes no money and eats Ramen all the time can find enough to donote then so can you (unless you make less money than me in which case I wish you the very best of luck finding your next meal).
Now on to this weeks review.
Phantom Menaced-RitualPenguin--I love this video mainly because I worship at the alter that is Indiana Jones (except the latest abomination). I love the homage to the famous scene from Raiders of the Last Arc. I love the idea. You can go here, to see the rest of the movie they put together.
Bad Song-Mitch Catsnip--You would all be lying if you didn't envision this exact scenario when certain songs come on. Mine is anything by Celine Dion.
Getting Hit By a Bus-Helgi Jonnson--I understand the temptation to make this into an arthouse short about a hi-speed bus that careens off the road into your house, but this should be more blockbustery. Like Speed, but we understand if you can't get Dennis Hopper. Great job though, so keep sending in your stuff.
Neighborhood Ride-David Kelly--I really liked this short clip. Especially the girls POV when she looks up you have it blurry and then it comes into focus. I am not sure if that was intentional or not, but it looked good. Cool idea too, made me think of the types of dreams I had as a kid about meeting my favorite transformers.
The Way of the Grasshopper-Kevin Mangold--Ahh yes Sensei. I will fight in grasshopper stance. Kids DO NOT TRY blocking bullets with a sword. I am pretty sure I would held liable if I were to make a joke about this video and some poor soul took daddies Beretta from the closet and provided me a lifetime of grief. That is all. Enjoy.
I love you Brad (but you look like puke)-Tanner-This has absolutely no merit to either be in this blog or on BFX or any other indymogul show. It did however, make me giggle like a schoolgirl. So that means A) I have a disturbingly juvenile sense of humor and B) I am as enthralled with celebrity culture as any other American consumer. Well done tanner.
Short Tipp-Simms Wright--Joby's bendable tripod is utilized on the most eclectic action shots. First a gun (pretty standard for the indy mogul crew), but then it starts getting more random than a David Lynch film. Simms has it on the guitar, then a handrail for your stairs, and last but not least, the vaccum cleaner. I gotta give props for displaying the dexterity of the bendable tripod, but try and incorporate more guns. Again, I am not condoning violence in any way.
Weirdo Faces-Shawn--At first I wasn't going to put this on the blog. It seemed exploitive and crass and the lowest common denominator of mimickry. Well, I went back and watched it again, and I think it's just what Shawn says it is. It's him doing weird faces, and well, just being generally weird. Fly that freak flag proudly Shawn.
Random Effects Montage-EvilApple--This is more Indy Mogul classic. Some of the other videos were a little out there, but this is straight up Agent Smith style head shot gun shooting craziness. Gotta love it.
And the best of the rest:
Rejected H1N1 Public Service Announcement--James Cadden
Late Night Hours--Will Collazo
The Corrupted--Knighten Richman
