Wesley's Weekly HOW TO: Invisible Slash

Well I am back this week, (I was gone last week because I got the flu), with the final effect for Mogulween! This week I am doing a slash wound whose apperance you can "activate" from a distance. Which could easily work for quick fight scenes when you quickly need to create wounds during the fight, or for a "Nightmare on Elm Street" style "invisible attacker", where you can't see the attacker, only the wounds appearing on their skin.

First, you need to create a fake skin layer, so either get a thin layer of liquid latex, or make up some alternative skin by dabbing the area in white glue..

Push some toliet paper over it, and then let it dry.

Then peel it off and cut it out.

Now, apply some fake blood over the area where you want the slash to occur.

Get some monofilament wire (fishing line), and cut off a strand that is long enough for an off-camera technician to grab both ends and pull it. (Depending on how wide your shot is, this will usually be anywhere from just a few feet, to maybe 10, but don't worry this stuff is in 100 yard rolls for a reason.)

And lay it across your wound section.

Now, lay your layer of fake skin on top, and around the edges attach it with glue, spirit gum, or liquid latex (whatever suits your applications more). Then cover with a layer of make-up to blend it into your skin.

Now, pull quickly, and voila, a cut appears, breaking the layer of skin, and revealing the fake blood layer underneath.
