Wesley's Weekly HOW TO: Basic Scrape

Unfortunately the bigger build i've been working on isn't quite ready yet, so I thought I would feature a simply make-up effect this week to tide you over until I can work out the kinks in the build i've been working on. Well this week I wanted to show how to do a basic "scrapped skin" effect. While we've shown how to do basic cuts and other injuries, we haven't covered a basic scrape yet, and I thought this would be as good a time as any to showcase it.

Obviously, start with a clean area on whatever part of your skin that you want to build up the effect. First build up a thin layer of white glue or liquid latex. Dab it on in a stipple pattern with a foam brush or make-up sponge.

After rubbing your thumb against it to rough it up a little (and pop open some pockets to give you an effective upper layer torn skin look), lay down some cream make-up. I used some gray here to have a darker area for some minor discoloration for the scrape area.

Now build up some more pinks and reds to give it an inflamed look from the skin damage. (After you're done with the layers of make-up, powder it all to reduce some of the shininess and make it look a little less artificial.)

Next, mix up some fake blood, and get a toothbrush you won't be using to brush your teeth ever again. (Unless you're into scrubbing your teeth with fake blood, you might be, don't let me stop you.)

Now rub your thumb across the top of the brush, and let it spaltter off all over the scrape area, dab away splatter that lands outside of the scrape area, then touch up any of the bigger scrapes with extra drops of blood. And there you go, easily get the look of falling off your bike and scraping your knee without actually having to fall of your bike and scrape your knee.
It's a win-win, trust me.
