that looks like it'll help me, rains where I am allot and this will definitely help, Thank you,

  • Justinsuperstar wrote on July 13, 1:42 pm

You may want to also put some sort of plastic wrap over it. And if it's REALLY coming down, with wind, you want to make sure that the water doesn't pool inside the jug.

  • ErikOsBad wrote on July 13, 2:06 pm

http://effectsandfilm.blogspot.com/ I just made a blog dedicated to special effects. I sponsor you guys but wont steal anything. Check it out and give advice maybe! Thanks alot

Awesome, great tutorial! I really dig Alan's hair, very rockstar-like

  • SunneyTehBunney wrote on July 14, 5:28 am

    Evan; They said in the video that you can buy liquid latex from costume shops, if you can't find it there they also put a link for an online store;

    It's so simple but effective
    Nice job..
I can't wait to see the Samurai episode from BFX

  • Jesus Betancourt wrote on July 14, 12:40 pm

    I have a question:
How are you supposed to see what you're filming? I mean, other than just kind of pointing the camera in the general direction of your subject.

  • Panpukin wrote on July 14, 1:16 pm

I like the idea but there some flaws in your design.

    1. Like someone already mentioned, how do you see what you are filming? Maybe leave the flap open while filming or something like that.

2: How do you reach the buttons on the camera(such as stopping and recording or zooming). I suggest making an opening right around where your buttons would be for easy access.

3: The protective thingy is kinda big for the camera. How do you keep it from sliding around while you are filming?

Also, I think it would be a good idea to do a test video for this like you do with the rest of your stuff. I know its summer and its not raining but maybe you could use a hose set to that sprinkler setting. Just some thoughts.

  • nick wrote on July 14, 3:09 pm

wen the rain hit the outside of the container it will make an echoing sound and u wont be able to hear ur actors! any suggestions to solve this prob?

  • lastdoctor wrote on July 14, 4:02 pm

This is a great idea. Seems like everyone else has covered the extras needed to make it better.

  • DrDoobious wrote on July 14, 5:51 pm

For sound you could use a shotgun mic right? There's probably simple and effective ways to cover it that wouldn't have any sound draw backs. Using onboard mics usually isn't suggested anyways

  • AguyinaRPG wrote on July 14, 6:31 pm

This is cool man. I'll use it sometime.

  • SprSxyStv0 wrote on July 14, 10:24 pm

I think it might also be a good idea to have the rear flap open up instead of down (ie: like this |\ not this |/ ), so it'll help keep water out better. The housings no good if you camera's sitting in a pool of water.

  • benjaming wrote on July 14, 11:44 pm

As I watched that video I was thinking that would work better as a hidden camera.

  • door wrote on July 15, 12:02 am

THANKS FOR EVERY THING IS IT VERY HELPFUL, GRACIAS.

  • Vegemighty wrote on July 15, 12:56 pm

Maybe for the noise problem you could just engineer a towel or rag over the bottle. Like wrap it in some kinda cloth. If you catch my drift.
Or you might not want to use the mic on the camera at all

  • Hazardous Studios wrote on July 15, 4:49 pm

I think maybe you could do an episode on a camera crane sorta thing. Keep up the good work!

  • death wrote on July 15, 8:32 pm

hey can you do a episode on knife wounds

  • NocturnalFlesh wrote on July 15, 8:51 pm

Very nice. I know it's been said before, but you should totally make a jib. That would be awesome!

    Thanks!

  • death wrote on July 15, 8:56 pm

do a episode on fake guts

  • Max wrote on July 15, 11:47 pm

Great! Now how do I put it underwater? PLEASE teach the world to make an underwater camera housing!!

  • Robert wrote on July 16, 12:38 am

NICE! I was just searching on youtube for a waterproof camera case thing. I was wondering, could you do a episode on prop weapons? Thanks.

  • WesScog wrote on July 16, 12:59 am

Prop Weapons is really easy, and I think he mentioned them before.

All you have to do is go to Toys R' Us, find the best looking toy gun there, spray paint it all black, and as long as you aren't doing any "Slide Action" shots, or close-up's, it'll look great.

What matters more is the muzzle flash, and the sound effect, animated effected shells, and a slide effect are secondary, and tougher to do, but no impossible if you have good aftereffects knowledge.

  • Cookieface wrote on July 16, 4:58 am

Another great idea for prop guns are Airsoft guns, they look very real and the pistols work very well on their own with no FX needed for the sound.

But I'm stil having trouble with the sqibs. I liked the idea of the tube and condom, but there were problems that I found with both those ideas. Are there any other methods that you know of?

  • lastdoctor wrote on July 16, 8:36 am

Cookieface, here is a link for a blood effect similar to the bottle idea. It's a little less work and fewer parts involved. http://www.exposure.co.uk/eejit/blood/index.html

  • dannymancini wrote on July 16, 8:53 am

Add a little peanut butter to your fake blood mixture for thickness

  • Kyle Surowicz wrote on July 19, 2:18 am

That rain idea seems really great. I will use it in the future.

What about completey submersible camera gear? The real stuff is expensive. I'm going to try and build my own but I'd love to see your interpretation

  • Justin Thomas Squires wrote on July 20, 12:05 am

Thats really cool, but if you were reording sound with your camera, youll hear the rain drops on th tde bottle.

  • daydreamer1 wrote on July 26, 8:10 pm

Would I also put rain ponchos up or something instead?

  • blahkidssaygo wrote on July 27, 7:00 pm

    cool

  • Cityscape Pictures wrote on September 27, 5:36 am

Cool, thats actually very useful, i know the suffering people go through when it rains and tey say "Oh no, my camera will get wet and my film will be ruind!"

  • CocoMunky wrote on October 12, 8:35 am

Thats awesome! You would for sure have to do any dialoge or anything later on. Can you imagine the racket it would make on the vid with the rain hitting the empty bottle? >.

  • BleachAnimeFreak1980 wrote on October 17, 12:48 am

How about an episode on making a cheap waterproof housing for your camera for those underwater shots?

  • PancakesWithSyrup wrote on October 24, 12:29 pm

I used to have that same swiss army knife! By the way, good tutorial.

  • Alex (anon) wrote on November 26, 8:15 pm

Yeah, it's good, but how can you get in there for starting to record? and you can't see the little screen to know what you're shooting.

  • Shock wrote on November 27, 12:39 pm

Nice idea, but it needs some improves to be perfect. Keep your good work.

  • ugman77 wrote on December 25, 2:06 pm

it seems like this would ruin your sound, the rain would make a loud noise interference when it hits the bottle. i find you are much better off just throwing a rain coat over it. but if its just drizzling this may work

  • filmgeek29 wrote on March 3, 4:37 pm

    freakin-z awesome

  • Brett (anon) wrote on March 13, 9:52 pm

What if you don't have microphones? What if the microphone is inside the camera and you need dialouge. First, the microphone won't pick up any sound, and the rain hitting on the bottle will make that, hollow sound. clunk clink clunk spshhh

  • bubbabooey2 wrote on August 7, 1:51 am

ya i was just about to post a comment just like that, then I saw your comment. I totally agree
