  • Jason wrote on September 17, 10:09 am

Awesome episode, that's what I'm talkin about!

  • hotelfboy55 wrote on September 17, 10:21 am

omg!!!!! i can't wait to run over my dummy!!! lol! BTW, i have a couple suggestions for the halloween episodes. It would be awsome if you guys made a swamp monster costume like the creture from the black lagoon.

  • jason voorhees 2007 wrote on September 17, 10:40 am

hey cool I'm going to make one. hell i have a cool request. here it is I'm making a horror movie but need a look for my killer like what should he wear in the movie he die then come back from the dead. so really i need a outfit.

  • ross wrote on September 17, 11:17 am

thats so good, ive tried doing them in the past and mine just didnt work lol

  • Blu Mage wrote on September 17, 11:29 am

Nifty, I actually never thought about making a dummy like that. More or less I just sew thin and durable fabric together and stuff it with newspaper.

Now, I can use the stunt dummy and the fake head effect, and then throw that off a building and it's head can actually go splat. And look awesome too.

Excellent work, Erik! And Steve, that duct tape looked pretty painful. XD

  • daydreamer1 wrote on September 17, 11:51 am

    Badass you guys!Just what I needed!!!Now...I just need a giant monster and a cliff.lol

  • drumsofdoom wrote on September 17, 12:24 pm

use plaster of paris instead of newspaper and make a holllow space for fake blood if your gonna chop his arms off!

  • SJPO wrote on September 17, 12:37 pm

Yeah, it was Ok. We once made one using socks... I liked the idea about using duct tape though, very cool. But there's one thing- Why did you greenscreen yourself into the old BFX building? It just brings back the old memories!

  • mac_millz wrote on September 17, 1:18 pm

Erik how u let Steve b@tch u??? great build guys i was just thinking about making a dummy!!!

  • alex wrote on September 17, 1:37 pm

that was pretty cool. but what was the budget????????
    how much did it cost??????

  • Kohrsfilms wrote on September 17, 1:45 pm

Yeah stunt dummies are awesome. We made one for my movie The Dangers of Video Games, and we hit it with a car at like 40mph. And the dummy was fine! It was amazing.

  • Weker1 wrote on September 17, 2:36 pm

Erik and Steve together Is power house of talent! Though I do Miss mike and Chris...

  • Gnome wrote on September 17, 3:25 pm

  • spoo2 wrote on September 17, 5:06 pm

wow great episode guys! i'm gonna need to use it some time very soon...
do you think you guys could make an effect where someone gets their throat slit or stabbed/ limbs cut off?

  • BlOoDrEdSaNdMaN67 wrote on September 17, 5:32 pm

    That was bad ass

  • wasteofdays wrote on September 17, 5:42 pm

    So Good................so good.

  • Weker1 wrote on September 17, 5:46 pm

Allso if you look at the fake head episode you you could attach the fake head to the ducktape dummy and have a car or what have you destroy the head, this could prolly allso work with a squib or a sword slice!
Fill the middle Of the dummy with fake blood and you could get a great slicing in half look, just remember to cut to the actors face for a good darthmaul effect!

  • Weker1 wrote on September 17, 5:55 pm

Allso!, My failed move effect was two years ago and the lead was the last one alive(ZOmbies!) and was going to shoot him self in the head so I set up the shot and attached a license plate to the back of my head whitch is where I put the Condom filled with fake blood unfortantly It wouldnt go off!, it might be for the best since I had no ear plugs and had not tested the how powerfull the the Water Dyno (Water proof firecracker) was against meatal!

Another failure was I had a magazine with a peice of metal in the middle of the pages Strapped to my chest so a friend could throw a dart (from a dart board) At my Chest, He missed the Magazine...., Och!

  • Patrick wrote on September 17, 7:06 pm

Some of those shots were pretty good. You can combine this with the falling effect Steve did on Weekend extra.

  • Patrick wrote on September 17, 7:10 pm

Shouldn't it list next weeks episode at the top? Do you guys make this things in a week then post them, or are some made in advance so you can take breaks? Will there eventually be an "end of season one"?

  • -toast- wrote on September 17, 7:24 pm

yah didnt spin the wheel :[ !!!

  • MagicSteveDiabloJoe wrote on September 17, 7:25 pm

  • MagicSteveDiabloJoe wrote on September 17, 7:26 pm

I really liked the stunt dummy idea too. I'll use it someday!

  • aaronallsop wrote on September 17, 7:53 pm

hey why do you reuse the quicktips at the very end of all the shows now? (use a painters mask always bring duct tape) besides that you guys rock 24/7

  • ErikBeck wrote on September 17, 8:22 pm

Hey everyone! I also thought it would be cool to attach the fake head from before, but forgot to mention it. The reason the wheel wasn't in this episode was because it was in a box being shipped across the country. It will be in the next episode. Also we'll stop recycling quick tips. Next week spaceships!

  • Pete359 wrote on September 17, 8:46 pm

LOL nice mid-plummeting conversation. Very cool.
Erik, you didn't bring your blue-walled/fake phone set with you to NYC? That was a cool set man...

  • ashogo wrote on September 17, 10:17 pm

those things actually look pretty real as long as they are shot from a distance. Nice.

  • spencer wrote on September 17, 11:23 pm

  • moviemansam89 wrote on September 17, 11:40 pm

    just joking awesome episode!

  • FyceDesigns wrote on September 18, 12:11 am

Yes! Now I can make even more movies that involve throwing Steve's duct-tape clone off of some forbidden New York rooftop...

i was thinking of using the principals of the fake hand mould to mould my face and make a latex duplicate i was wondering if this would be possable and if it was in any way dangerouse P.S if this worked it could be used to make the duct tape dummies more realistic

  • Jason wrote on September 18, 4:31 pm

  • DJ Andy wrote on September 18, 10:59 pm

This one is fricken awesome Erick! Seriously, I wouldn't have thought of the duct tape design. But is there anything that you can use to stuff the dummy other than newspaper? I'm not sure I could find that much newspaper just lying around. Also, doesn't a fullsize human need a lot of newspaper for the stuffing?

  • Justinsuperstar wrote on September 18, 11:11 pm

BlOoDrEdSaNdMaN67: We cover fake weapons in the original "Q and Erik" video. It's not exciting enough to really do a whole episode about, since it's a very simple thing. Just buy fake swords, or paint a toy to look more realistic. No trick. That's much easier than making something.

  • MacevoyProductions wrote on September 18, 11:48 pm

Haha! I made one of these for a movie I made called The Dangers of Video Games. It was fine even after we hit it with a car.

  • uhrisuh wrote on September 19, 2:38 am

BlOoDrEdSaNdMaN67... dude it's like halloween time ... get your fake swords that way ....

Also people who like make-up and stuff .. wait a couple days after halloween and you can get stuff really cheap im talking like 50 cents cheap .. it's not the greatest make-up in the world but if you have the talent (and i know you do) you can make it look awesome.

  • Biblmac wrote on September 19, 9:54 am

Wow that was pretty interesting but you should have used your own tips for a kooler stunt fight. no offense.

  • Jeremy wrote on September 19, 2:23 pm

  • John wrote on September 20, 3:20 pm

  • angrybuddha wrote on September 20, 5:15 pm

also if you tape a couple of ziploc bags filled with fake blood on its back or front or whereever he'll land it gives a nice splatter effect

  • Bloodaxe wrote on September 21, 10:25 pm

I know this episode is old and all but as I scrolled through the BFX episodes and crossed this one, I noticed that maybe you could bend a (wire) hanger and put it in the limbs so they don't flail around as much.

  • JohnStudiosInc (guest) wrote on June 10, 9:20 am

Backyard FX: Stunt Dummy

What can you make with some duct tape, old cothes, a fake head, and some newspaper. If your answer was a pile of old clothes and newspaper with a roll of duct tape and a fake head on the top, then you need to watch this video. Using just those ingredients, Erik builds a life size stunt dummy.
