Beyond the Trailer
James Bond fighting...Americans?

Tonight I went to see the latest James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace. Imagine my surprise when one of Bond's enemies was revealed to be the CIA.
Forget the Germans, forget the Russians - the newest movie bad guys are the Americans.
WTF?!
I mean, I'm sitting in the theater having a good time rooting for 007 when suddenly I discover I'm rooting against myself? What a mean trick.
Of course, I follow the news and understand that America isn't that popular right now. But are we really on par with Nazis and Communists? It shows how good things are today that the evilest thing the world community can think of is the Bush Administration. As misguided and sloppy as our 43rd President might be, he is hardly a Hitler or Stalin.
Look, we all know oil is major problem right now, but is America really the only one to blame here? Last I checked most of the entire world relies on oil. And how about a little credit that both candidates for the White House - Barack Obama and John McCain - made ending the USA's dependency on oil a cornerstone of their campaigns.
And this film is even made by American movie studios - Sony, MGM and United Artists! Nothing like paying millions of dollars to insult yourself.
I know James Bond has to fight somebody, but what happened to the good old days when it was some crazy billionaire with an eye-patch and a cat? Blockbusters shouldn't get political since they're supposed to be for everybody.
Quantum of Solace is going to make a ton of money this weekend, but if Americans continue to buy tickets for films that are anti-American and not even say anything about it...well, in Indiana Jones 5 we might just see Harrison Ford punching out an American soldier.
