@matt BFX airs the final build episode next week so guess what you say did not matter one little bit and the toys for tots show is finally over. Now we can get to some real film making and not have to listen to little kids begging for self building toys.

We all knew this was coming. I mean a show that builds props can't go on forever. But from what erik said in the forums there will still be a show like yourfx so we will have to see. Its seems they are going to talk more about how to actually make movies and less abour how to make toys which is awesome.

If Zack is leaving, why not just get a new host like they did last time? They don't have to cancel the entire show! Zack did a good job, but if he's leaving, then why not just get a new host. Also, where is this info comming from. I want to hear it come out of Zack's mouth in the next episode.

Use a Canon DSLR like the 550D or 600D. They aren't utterly expensive and make really good video especially in low light situations.

Dude there are no cameras that will shoot in the dark that are not uber expensive. Just learn to do it right with lights. Film it using lights and then in editing play with the brightness and contrast until you get what you want.

and this is why bfx is not just for kids.because they ask for specific builds when bfx specifically said no specific builds.

in my first comment for a flux capacitor  i asked because the last episode from the game any way he built a hoverboard and thats a specific build

yeah but if you watched previous episodes you'd see that on zack talks back he said no more specific builds. because he wants to build things that we can all use and don't just have one purpose.

For example: a general rifle build, then mabey a general SMG build. It doesn't have to bee specific.

@me I appreciate the sentiment but I'm trying to work out my anger issues and although I stand behind what I have always said about this being a filmmaking site and not a cosplay or replica site can we not talk about it rationally? I have been a dick in the past but I'm working on it. Maybe some of you that are blasting me or others should do the same. And I have kids. I make movies with my kids so calling kids names is not what I am about. 

I apologize for my past comments that might have been rude. But can you people not look around and see what this place has become? Constant spam for a mask that you can buy relatively cheap. Seriously the new Ape movie is just that, apes. Zack has done said he will do a BASIC gun making tutorial and people still spam for that too. Hell they spam pages of the stuff now.

This should be a filmmaking community not a day care for gamer kids or a place to throw hate at each other. I know no matter how bad I want it to be it will never be what it once was and I accept that. But what I can not accept is the way we all treat each other and the lack of basic common sense that seem to be running wild here.

From now on I will try my best to be helpful and not bash the kids that do not know any better. But in return can those kids at least use some common sense in their requests? By this I mean if Zack says he is not going to do anymore video game props then don't ask for them and for the love of god don't start off the requests with "I know you said you weren't going to do these anymore but can you..."  For game toys the RPF that was suggested before is awesome. They do build those toys because they want them too. You are far more likely to find what you want there. 

Just look at the comment here with out me and you will see I am not the problem here. Its the fact anyone can post anything and hide behind their keyboard. There is no reason to call me a names like "prick" I was just stating the obvious.  This is a show for kids...yes kids, not true film makers.  There are plenty of forums based around film making that do not have a puppet for a co host...lol.  But if you want to consider yourself a "real" film maker and consider IM a true film making website, by all means please do so.
   Dale is nothing more then a whiny, welfare collecting, middle aged man with nothing better to do but bad mouth little kids about nerf guns.  Wait a minute... could you really be Dale?  Naaaa he is taking a break from IM....or is he????  I may only be 13, but at least I know how to use proper sentence structure, take a hint on your return reply.

Oh and Za IM never asked me to do shit. Hell IM does not give a fuck about this site anymore of have you not noticed all the issues with the front page for a week now that no one is addressing? The puppet is a prop. Erik used it because he did not have the cast starting out to have people on camera with him and Zack picked it up to make the transition more smooth for the ones that hated the change. But if you will pay attention he is not used nearly as much as he used to.

Dale, if you would pay more attention, you would see I was talking to the other guy who called me a "prick".  He and I were having a discussion about you before you rudely interrupted.  I thought you were going away.

   IM is a kid based show, a blind man could see this.  Most of the props build over the years and a lot of the topics started on the forums would not and should not inspire any adults about any type of film making.  Most real adults have already chosen their paths in life, have full time jobs, have children of their own, and should be worrying more about their own financial goals for putting their kids through college and planing for retirement.

  It's my guess that you my friend have not done this fully, It's also my guess you have screwed up and take out your frustration on us kids.  You need and should take some time off the computer and get things straightened out in real life.  I'm sorry if what I say makes you feel bad inside, only you know the truth.  Fix yourself and rejoin society as the new and improved Dale Burton.

I am not going to argue with a 13 year old child that has no idea what being an adult is like. What I will say is, having a puppet does not make something for kids. Jeff Dunham does shows with puppets that are not ment for kids. His subjects deals with sex and other adult humor as well as swearing. Hardly kid stuff yet he has puppets. But he has done some kid friendly stuff as well. BFX is the same way. They have dealt with adult humor and have done stuff that is kid friendly as well. They use power tools that kids should not be using like drills, heat guns, spray paints, dremel tools, hot glue guns, ect. Kids have no business handling these things with out adult supervision. Even the airsoft guns that Zack suggests you have to be 18 to buy. Come to think of it spray paint you have to be 18 to buy too.

Does this mean kids should not watch and learn? Not at all. But the show is about low budget film making and they use programs that cost hundreds is not over a thousand dollars (AE). So the price of the programs and the price of the tools, as well as the ability to buy the tools tells you this is not a kids show. This is not geared toward kids no matter how bad you want it to be. 

Now you said I needed to take a break from the computer and regroup so to speak. But when I tried this you got on here and started insulting me behind my back. I had said nothing to you or anyone else and I get and email from another member (that is a member of the IM forums that you have not posted on that is full of adults) and was told some child was running his mouth about me. Did I come in and insult you or bad mouth you? No IK came in and apologized for the way I had handled things before and you still flamed me. So I ask you, if someone is insulting people behind their backs and then refuses to accept their apology when they do finally reply to hate being spewed about them as well as the lies the nwho need to take the break?

Haha IM just for kids? it's called backyard fx not kids toys for cheap. i mean like dale said its for all ages. if your young you'll need an adult to help you so that's one reason it's not just for kids. and who sais a puppet cant be fun for every one. :) and besides they swear all the time on this show. do cartoons just for kids swear NO and if it was just for kids wouldn't they show more props and costume's and no camera rigs and fx?

Here's an idea: Why don't you ALL just calm down. Seriously. Kids (well I'm 13, so there you have it) use this site. So do adults. And sure the kids get snotty sometimes, but that's no reason for an adult to say "f**k kids." That's NOT a good example. sure, Dale's been a jerk sometimes, but so has everyone else at some point in their life. I know I have, and unless you're some kind of god, or a robot, you have too. So let's all just get along. (oh and for anyone who will say "Oh sure the 13 year old comes here to learn how to build toys," I don't come here for that. I make movies with scripts just like other filmaker.) So really guys, if the kids whine, then you should correct them, but not by saying "F*&K YOU YOU STUPID BI***." What kind of example would that set?

I am almost positive Zack at ont time mentioned Sony Vegas 10 pro but that is a six hundred dollar system. It depends really on what you want to do with it. Sony has much cheaper systems but they are not as good as the pro package and they do not have all the features as the pro. For effect compositing they use after effects which can run as high as a thousand dollars. Windows movie maker is free with all windows systems though you might have to download it.

Hold them under water

It would be helpful to know what you want your shot to look like. Is the camera underwater with them in a tight close up whilst they splash and struggle creating some drama, or is it just looking down at the water with them struggeling? You can stay under water for a few seconds at a time slpashing and kicking and take several shots from different angles and cut it together to make it look like more time has passed. That would be more dramatic anyway. But you may want to consider rewritting this scene to something else if you are under 18 and not any kind of trained professional. I would hate to see anything happen to someone for the sake of a movie. You can also consult a life gaurd and have them on set. If you are dead set on doing this scene then you should research drowning and everything there is to know about it first for safety reasons. But again i would do a rewrite and change it

Oh also get some shots or just the arms or feet flailing around as cut aways, it will add to the tension. But again i dont recommend it if you dont know what you are doing.

I meant to add that; that way no one has to be underwater for any length of time.

Kj I feel the exact same way. Its always: "Buy a airsoft gun!" But a few things about them, the rifles are to dang expensive! The Halo armor cost less! (From when Eric did it) I mean realy! Even if I could by airsoft guns, I would not because most good ones are too expensive! Plus, you have to be extremely careful with them and if one breaks, you are screwed.

Why not take the build Erik did way back and... saw it down?  Just cut the stock down to a "pistol grip" size and hack the barrels down to just in front of the reload slider?  Should be simple enough.

Take a toy shotgun and saw part of the barrel off. If you live overseas and get toy guns, then go to Eric's old shotgun build and saw the barrel off. Simple.

This »dirty« look comes from the skylight reflected on the windscreen. A polarizing filter would have done a great job elimintating this fogginess.
