After watching this I noticed the gun that the 'grunt' has an awesome gun and also the 'Mercs' do as well. could you maybe make a tutorial on how to make it/them.

I from Cape Town, South Africa (Hollywood Africa HQ), and I am a big fan of your show and I watch this episode and armor build got me thinking of an game I like called 'Darksiders - Wrath of War'. Could you do a episode that shows how to make War's Left hand gauntlet, or better yet his gun 'Mercy', both of which is badass. It would the coolest episode yet. Very Cool. I'd rather wait for pieces like this and the Nukka Break piece rather than have you rush it to meet weekly deadlines.  I also have to say the acting is always a notch above what many other indie teams are putting out.  Well done.

Great test film.  And very nice job on the "re-purposing" of the Nerf Longstrike gun (watch where the trooper puts on the barrel extension) I liked it.

To everyone out there who disses this or any other test film by the Wayside crew or anyone else who sends theirs in... let's see your masterpiece; put up or shut up it takes guts to throw your work up online for everyone to "critique," not to mention a fair bit of thought to go into any sort of script, location, props, actors (you go Zack, be in every test film! Prerogative of the boss :) whether  anyone else likes it or not, lol.  As the age-old saying goes, "judge not, lest ye be judged yourself," so if you're just talking trash without anything constructive behind it, guess we know the quality of your work and why it isn't posted up for similar treatment.

Good job as (most) always, very glad to see things rolling along.

AWESOME! Best BFX Short EVER! Loved the FX, art direction and style! Was amazed by the cool creature FX - how did you do the blinks? And the flying spaceship was also very convincing! All in all GREAT STUFF!

How did you get the effect of the car, or did you actually buiild a car...?

The cinematography and visual effects were great. but i think the story needed work. I felt like "it" just ended. Another thing, does Zack have to be in every test film? I know you like acting. But he was badly casted in this test film. The other actors were great. Idk i just see Zack like a goof ball/retard... he shouldn't of acted in this. he should be acting in the comedy test film, not the serious ones. I'm not saying he is a bad actor...he just didn't fit the roll.  Its like casting Will Ferrell for a Halo movie. thats fuck'n retarded.

well, the cinematography and visual effects were amazing.  But, the audio was much short of that.  Were you using a boom mic?  Also, another method is called adr (I think) which is basically rerecording some of the lines and just syncing it to what the actor is saying on the screen.

Hi i have several questions to ask...i am fro a different continentso i need to ask some things... I See in a lot of builds that you mostly use Pvc Pipes,Liquid Latex,Foam,(Foam Boards? or something like this)
In What type of Shop u go and u buy pvc pipes??? or latex or foam??? if u tell me i could search here in greece and find shops similar to those u buy your stuff... it would be very helpfull if someone could answer me...

So impressed with your entire site. Really great stuff. I am really impressed by the quality of your work you accomplish in 2 days. I am an actor in LA(yeah, big suprise) and have been starting to make my own shorts. I see you guys are using DSLR's. which one do you guys use. I am using a Canon 60d. Most of the stuff I have done so far has been without sound. Am starting to look at audio equipment. can you recommend any mic? I am definitly going to build your shotgun mic pole. Hey Zack and gang, that was a really awesome Sci-Fi short. I'm an indy film maker as well and I really enjoy all the effort and work you put into the builds and the shorts. I have used many of your builds and effects in my shorts and I will definitely continue to use your pointers. 

After seeing your build with the armor, I want to make my own Sci-Fi short. Now the question I have for you is, how did you make the soldiers sound like they were actually talking through a futuristic helmet mic? Did you have to re-record their audio during post or just use the audio recorded when shooting?

Loved the video, I love what can be done with a low-budget sci fi. My only real complaint was that the audio was imbalanced. The dialogue was way too quiet while the music and action was way too loud.

This might be my all-time favorite test film, certainly of Zack's tenure, at least. 
The armors look great, but I'm of two minds about the masks. They look striking, even intimidating... until they get taken off, and then briefly and hurriedly put back on later. Of course, to be fair, they were something of an afterthought in the original build, but for late additions, they look pretty damn good. I'm curious if there was any sort of ventilation worked into the faceplate; it doesn't look like it from the close-ups.

Hey, three questions Zach. Could you talk a bit about how you did 1.) the high jump scene with the alien. 2.) the alien itself. 3.) the cgi ship? Quite realistic by the way.

I never comment on these, but I must say this was very VERY good.  At least as good as any SciFi Chnnel original.  The real test? I wanted to see the whole movie.

How did you guys do the alien's face? I've been looking for tutorials on alien puppet masks, but I can't find any good one! Your mask was the best I've seen so far. I'd love to see how you did that.
Oh, and by the way, this short film was 10X better than most of the sci-fi stuff Hollywood is putting out these days. It was incredible. Good work!

Wondering how you guys made the lights on the armor / guns? it was pretty sweet looking in the caves. Also wondering how you guys created the "package" and what it is made of. Props to you guys, it was a pretty epic short!

The test film was pretty cool. I especially liked the alien's mouth moving, that was awesome! But there were too many shots where the armor was a bit wobbly or else falling off... Kind of took away from the illusion that they were metal rather than foam...
