My favorite head shot scene was from the dawn of the dead remake with Ving Rhames when the girl shot the one guy that was part of their group of survivors that turned into a zombie the bullet went through the guys forehead and came out the back of his head and  sprayed the side of the bus with blood.

The one in Teletubbys episode 1000.  It was EPIC!

Hands down, the seemingly unending stream of head shots at the end of Martin Scorsese's The Departed.

"Saving Private Ryan" Jackson (the sniper) shoots the Nazi enemy in the bell tower right through the scope. It's that half second of seeing Jackson's muzzle, realizing it's pointed at him, and then a flash that sells it. It's a totally cliche shot, but pulled off so well.

my only qualm with this site is they show you to much stuff that is not really worth it. Like a Disctrict 9 hand. Why? using that I would feel 100 percent un-orginal. I think they should stop showing people how to rip off other films in such a way that could never compete with the original. Gun shots can be used in anything but a Avatar suite or BFG whats the point, nothing good will come from it.

My favorite head shot is in the original dawn of the dead. The one where the zombies forehead is blown off. I think they used scar wax built over top of a plastic circle that was attached to a string. There was a blood tube running under the scar wax. When the plastic circle was pulled out it looked like a bunch of skin was blown off and the wound started to bleed.

I have two the head shot at the end of Fight Club and the one in the drug deal gone wrong in Scarface, they were sweet....

To do an in camera head shot you follow the exact same instructions Erik provided but you embed a button tied to a length of fishing line and run the line parallel to the camera so you won't see it and on action queue the actor as you pull on the line so he reacts properly.  This method was used by Tom Savini for some of the head shots in the original Dawn of the Dead.  At one point he even used a coffee can lid for a rifle head shot.  Also check out the first Godfather movie; when James Caan buys it at the end they used squib hits for the body but for the bullets in the face they used the button attached to fishing line method! Cheers!
