where is the inkblot animation download?

If you have the software, consider doing a head replacement... use the indymogul animated inkblots as an animated texture. Have your actor wear a green hood and no hat(for easier compositing), then use a digital head and fedora. I wish I had the time to try it out both ways.

To me it seems like it would be easier to just use the inkblot stock footage directly on the footage of your actor. Maybe motion track it if you have the ability. Using the projector and the dummy head seems like extra work to me.

Ya know, there's a different, but much more complicated, way to do this. Make a custom mask that's white with a basic rorschach on it and under the white put black rubber strings and under the black put white rubber strings then when your actor moves his or her face, the fabric will strech and reveal the rubber creating all kinds of cool patterns. Like I said, complex.

Give the IndyMogul crew some credit, okay. It's their job to take an amazing effect and brainstorm ways to make it from one trip to Walmart. Then they have to shoot and edit this and get tons of comments about it being a day late. Relax, there are tons of other people who would love to try cheap movie effect tutorials.

This is one of those effects I'd want to mix and match different effects. Some shots do it this way. Maybe for some shots project right on the actor's face. In others have the actor wear a mask with the markings already on there. One idea I toyed with was make a mask with a red splotch, a blue splotch and a green splotch. Then in post, you can filter out each colour in turn and desaturate the result.

Awesome build! What were those "filters" that you used to give it that look though? The one's after chroma and luma key.

One of the best builds ever, up there with stunt dummy and the Sweeney Todd chair.

Couldn't you complete the sam effect by just tracking the inkblot animation to the actor in after effects?

Interesting to see you left the projector out of the shopping materials considering how important it is to the build. I know you guys kinda run under the idea of being inexpensive, but maybe sometimes you should just admit that there's no cheap way to do something.
