Realistic Knife Throw Effect

Can anyone tell me how you fix the wire onto the actors back (or whatever) as erik doesn't explain this?

I did the kife throw effect with the person throwing the knife actually throwing the fake knife,cut the scene cut the fake knife in half ducted tape knife to my forehead and covered the ducted tape with fake blood it cost me 10$ but your idea is still awesome (please put this comment on bfx)

I accually watched matrix today and its quite confusing if you havent seen the whole movie by the way you should watch matrix revisited its about how they made the matrix

hey indy mogul, great effect! i still had a few questions and was wondering if you have the details for the knife throw. i would like to do it but dont know where to buy that syringe or what kind of tubing that is or how big it is. i would really like to do this effect so please post the details! thanks! O and if its hidden somewhere i cant see, please let me know, i thought it was just in the about section.

Hey that was cool but in the first shot his hair is back under the cap and in the next it is in the hole watch closely any you will see. But that was very good.

For some reason, this isn't loading on any computer I try it on... By the way, can I request an effect? I need the effect as seen in the CPR skit on the Saturday Night Live yesterday... It's not really that easy to describe, but just ask someone who watched it yesterday...

I think the effect is more realistic if you actually throw the knife in the first shot. Just make sure no one is in the way:D

Hi there, not sure about this one, but I'd like to mention that in the matrix. *going through it frame by frame with what I can on your player (I can't be bothered to go and put the vhs tape in) but it looks as if the knife was actually allready in the head, but instead of rolling it back so that you can't see it at first, it looks as if it was edited out in post and then blurred in the shot instead. Not entirely sure, thanks for your method though, works brilliantly. While I'm here I want to make another knife throw request. Theres a scene in starshiptroopers. Where sergeant Zim throws a knife at the hand of Ace. They use a cut before the knife goes in the hand, but when it cuts it's allready in there and blood squirts out of the hand. I'm not sure exactly how they did that, but they may have used a model. Could you tell me anything more?

great effect, brilliant test film, a better example of where that exact effect is used is in the Japanese film "Battle Royale" where Takeshi kitano (playing a teacher) throws a knife at a schoolgirl for not listening to him, oh yeah, thats badass.
