is this good for smashing someones head into?

so... I would know a better sugarglass - 8 parts sugar (e.g. 80gramm) and 5 parts distilled water(e.g. 50 gramm) - stir them in a high glass till it´s a kind of thick mass. Now cook on a low heat, if it´s too hot it will get brown (caramellisation) or if it´s not hot enough it will go white and again gets sugar. Now cook till huge bubbles come up and stop cooking it. After this step lay it down on a cool and plain surface - let it chill, I´ve ready, you can use it ;) (and it tastes good + it´s able to look through + with food colouring you can get every colour you want)

Sweet. (No pun intended) Find a friend who bakes and raid her kitchen. Chances are all you'll need to buy in the candy thermometer. Fight in a junkyard coming up. I'm thinking we're gonna smash some windows.

oh and the way he made that fire hydrant fit was he made the whole scene out of cardboard the blue tape in the backround was a dead giveaway. but if you don't examine this you would have no idea.the whole thing is made out of cardboard because the whole ting moved when eric punched it. nonetheless it was still funny and attractive to the eyes.

I need a pane of sugar glass for a movie I am making. The scene where the glass is broken takes place at the school where my mom works. As far as I know, there is no stove at the school. The school is about a 15-20 minute drive from our house. I was thinking of transporting several panes of glass wrapped up in bubble wrap or something, and put into a cooler for transport. Should I do this?

Same here, I really want to know how to make bottles. We tried rolling up some sheets into a conical shape while they were still cooling and pliable, but they ended up pretty thick and heavy, and the guy who got smashed over the head said it HURT. Dunno... a real bottle might've even been easier on his head? But one good thing about ours was we made it with molasses, so it did look like a real brown bottle. The conical shape didn't matter much, when we cut to the fake bottle scene it was well on its path to destiny, with big motion blur. It shattered into a million pieces, too. Not exactly realistic in that aspect, but it makes for great TV. Too bad the GL2 tape threading mechanisms decided to freeze right after the moment of impact! Check out the 'final' product at www.crosscarriersgeneration.com. I'm doing some polishing on the edits, but there's a good rough cut there. It's the top right icon on the movies page, Trading Places. Oh yeah, can't wait to build my own Jib. Gonna try to add full remote control though. If I succeed, I'll post my results.

Me and a couple of friends used this episode and the previous zombie makeup episode to make a movie for our Media Studies work at college, we ended up making an 'In case of emergency break glass' box, only ours was, 'In Case Of Zombie Attack Break Glass' and instead of the fire extinguisher... it was a shotgun... okay , I suppose, like you couldn't this findout on other websites? You guys are hopeless, you don't explain bottles which is the main smash item in a fight. How do you do a bottle. You can make a window smashable pane out of snot if you wanted, so how do you you make a bottle mould - what mos of us want to know... I challenge you

if you heat the glass between 280 and 290 NOT TO 300 you will have a transparent glass because at 300 the glass will start to caramelize so 280-290 will be transparent and it works so try it

i've found that if you use liquid sweetener u can get the glass to look more clear. my friend said liquid glucose also works but i dont know where u can get that.

Zak; Good idea. I say Erik makes Steve watch a scary movie and then Steve's face turns purple and distorted in 7 days. Steve and his amazing cancer-free balls can do anything, I'm sure he can make a special effect/miracle like that. *cough* Nah, but it would be nice to see someone crawling out of a TV! I'm so glad you did this. Last winter during an ice storm, my car windows were covered with this perfect sheet of ice. I rolled down the windows and they stayed intact. I had fun punching and elbowing them out and afterwards was sad because I thought it would be fun using it in some sort of video. Your method is a lot easier than waiting for the perfect ice storm ;p

Hey BFX. I'm writing a script right now for a zombie flick and there's a scene where a doctor cuts open the top of a zombies head, kind of like in Re-Animator when Dr. Hill cuts open the dead guys head. I was wondering if you could do something like that for your fake heads episode.

You Can make stained glass by crushing different colored cany and putting it in an oven on a cookie sheet and keep the different colors seperate on the cookie sheet

Well, the glass has a yellowish color to it...how can I prevent that?

Although the temp of the sugar needs to reach 300 degrees the color could have been caused by the amount of heat used. A more moderate heat source for a longer peroid should clear the "glass", giving a much crisper image.

Blazeark107, I think the yellow tint came from the fact that the mixture started to caramelise - as you saw, it doesn't help when you break your thermometer by letting it drop into the mixture. Definitely a top tip there! As for BFX, big kudos to you Erik once again for something informative, interesting and so downright entertaining!

um i dont mean to be rude i love this effect but is there anyway to get it more clear instead of the yellow color!

Alright, wootness and way to go. my only question: what can we do to help improve the clarity of the glass? it was kind of yellowish, but that is understandable due the the variety of materials included.
