Hey IndyMogul. Great tutorial, although I have a hose nozzle specifically made to make a rain like consistent downpour but this tutorial rocks!

I also spend most of my time at the local hardware store to prepare a list of stuff ill need to construct your effects!

    Keep up the awesome work!

  • Charles P wrote on August 6, 12:40 pm

Thanks for this tutorial eric! Do you hang the machine from something?

  • ErikBeck wrote on August 6, 12:57 pm

Yeah, you hang it from a tree. Check out the "How to blog" for more details.

    Thanks Charles P.

Wicked, i need a job so i can afford to make all this stuff. Ive done the gun shot effect and it worked awesome, had to improvise alot and ended up costing quite a bit more, but was totally worth it. You guys are great, keep it up.

  • John Smith wrote on August 7, 4:29 am

Any suggestions on how to use this rain effect if you don't have access to a water supply, (ex. if you have a shot that requires you to be in the middle of a street) ?

Strup: It's not weird, but that's something you want real training for, not just tips from a guy on the web.

  • Kevinaz wrote on August 10, 8:12 pm

The rain in the test film doesn't even look like its there. it looks like you shot it in front of a black screen, and superimposed it. I don't know if thats a compliment or an insult... but it's meant as a compliment!

  • lowbudgetblockbuster22 wrote on August 10, 8:22 pm

My Rain machine was only $8.00, instead of wood I used two mop poles and just tied everything together with the cable ties. It Works Great!

  • DrDoobious wrote on August 20, 10:54 pm

Duane, that sounds awesome, but I won't believe it til I see it!
Send in a video of that baby in action

I just watched your video on how to make it rain on your set. Now, I've seen the video on how to rainproof your camera, but how do you rainproof your boom mic??? Any advice would be stellar, thanks IndyMogul, you Rock!!

  • Pieontheside wrote on September 16, 9:39 am

  • Cityscape Pictures wrote on September 27, 12:50 pm

  • poobum111 (anon) wrote on January 2, 6:49 am

    hi erik!
can you make a blood pack of some sort on the episodes...
    thnx

  • Sıcacık (guest) wrote on June 25, 8:26 pm

    Thanks a lot...

  • AVMedia wrote on September 9, 1:47 pm

Nicely done with the rig. My thought is that it also helps to shoot the rain up, so it falls naturally. A good backlight on the rain will also help you see the rain

  • erox97 wrote on October 10, 5:11 pm

HOLY I COULD USE THAT FOR MY MOVIE

Backyard FX 13: Rain Machine

How do you add instant drama to your scenes? Rain and sappy music of course. Using some wood, rope and a garden hose Erik shows you how to make a "Hollywood rain machine" for less then $50 bucks. Check out the detailed project plans in our blog.
