was that real fake blood when steve was shot at the end? or was it CG?

  • Aidan (guest) wrote on July 22, 11:29 am

It's pretty obvious. Just pause really fast at 1:25. (It's CG!)

Haha. Awesome show guys! The effect wasn't amazing (I mean, the whole wall chunk came out. It should have been lightly cut into smaller chunks, but we get the point).

The test film was awesome! Great job Steve!

  • deadbydawn wrote on July 21, 11:10 am

Hell yes great show gentelman and congrats on the Merch, ill be plaving my order son hopefully. Peace

  • Evan Miles (guest) wrote on July 21, 11:18 am

I need a cool plastic bag choking effect for cheap. How do I do that?

  • Aidan (guest) wrote on July 21, 9:50 pm

Just do a bunch of quick shots and switch your actor to a fake head as you cover it w/ a plastic bag. That way, none of your friends smother and you've got an awesome way to off someone in your movie. Great effect, by the way.

  • jasonbeck (guest) wrote on July 21, 11:19 am

I've made a break away wall before all you need is a bunch of old shoe boxes a sponge some paint and card board. First paint all of your shoe boxes like bricks then take your card board and make it look jagged in the middle and do it again to another piece tape them to each side of a door way then film a real wall then film a close up of the fake one breaking away and then shoot your actors reaction.

  • Weker1 wrote on July 21, 2:21 pm

Gota Be Honest Loved the effect But the Jagged hole just didn't sell it for me.
I get that the Test Film(Love the JP Line)was supose to be funny but it was just a bit cartoonie.
Couldn't a thin Plaster wall Honey Combed(Many little holes in it that are only visable close up) Work well and be jump throughable with out the aid of cutting?
Another Victom Of The G-Rage...Poor PE...

  • steo41 (guest) wrote on July 21, 2:53 pm

If you guys really don't like the effect you can just really throw your actor through a real wall! Nah don't, just you a thinner material like paper and add layers and if that doesn't work through a dummy through the fake wall, just way him down with stuff and chuck him, and you really only need to get the effect of him smashing through the wall others you can cut the scene where you get the reaction shoot of your real actor falling. But still you guys did a great effect

  • Skycarl wrote on July 21, 3:40 pm

  • drweir wrote on July 24, 12:49 pm

You can get a cymbal monkey on eBay. That's where I got my trademark monkey. The one Erik has in this episode is known as a "Charlie Chimp" and if I'm not mistaken, was made in the 1970's.

  • strikeaposefilms wrote on July 22, 12:53 pm

I'm seriously going to get one of those for my film club, maybe 2! Have a bunch of crazy people break through walls all at once. You think this effect could also work for ceilings and floors?

    HAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • jared wrote on July 25, 10:51 pm

i meant for those to be spaced and oriented more like wood lath in a plaster wall.

  • Tosh wrote on July 25, 8:32 pm

I liked the test film a lot! :) Very funny!

    Is the gorilla a pun?

I imagined a sequel of the test movie, called:

    Planet of Apes: Gorillas Invasion

It's about an emerging gang of killers, wearing gorilla suits, soon after Planet of Apes is becoming popular (either 1969 or 2001?). Initially, people are in panic and think they are aliens :D because the costumes are armored and never a "goriila" has been killed. :-P

  • IrishDevil wrote on July 25, 10:01 pm

I'm curious, could you have done this with one sheet of dry wall instead? You use a single sheet, painted on either side to match the environment, and score (pre-cut, but not all the way through) where the actor will go through. All the dust that comes out with the actor really sells the effect, and then there isn't the jagged cut out laying there with you.

I'll concur about the stud frames. Houses built after the seventies use drywall (or sheet rock it's sometimes called) and the slats on the side were unnecessary. Maybe something like short lengths of wire or dust would be better.

I'll also agree that the cut out section could have used some more sectional cutting. But I could be way off my rocker on that one.

Test film was awesome. I've been watching you guys since the beginning and I love what you do for the independent film maker.

4 Minute Film School suggestion: How framing the shot off level, in close, far out, or panning can enhance the emotional response and other story elements of a film.

  • youngspeildberg wrote on July 27, 10:19 pm

wow, i definetly agree with ur idea for 4 min. film school. Also, i found a cheap way to do "wire fu" (aka the Matrix effect):
all you have to do is set up a dolly track around ur actors tht r fighting. At one point yell "Freeze" and let the camera (on the dolly) travel around the frozen actors. Now, this is only for fight scenes; i haven't found an easy way to do this w/ dodging bullets. If u don't have a dolly (like i did when first trying out this effect), just take ur camera and walk around ur actors.

  • MickeyG (guest) wrote on August 4, 7:37 pm

Nice job with the wall and funny video as always. Actually the biggest laugh I got out of this which most might miss is when you said to "cut your 1x3's to form a basic frame then measure and cut again." I had to rewind to make sure I heard that right. LOL.

  • mogulfan12 wrote on August 8, 5:44 am

that monkey had the good samaritan

  • Jllik wrote on August 13, 9:58 pm

Nice, but studs go verticly through a wall but you put them horizontally

  • Aspiring-screenwriter-pat wrote on August 15, 3:31 pm

Good principals, but the effect wasn't very realistic. The zig zag edges were unrealistic as was the single piece which came out. In the future you might want to try rigging the section to come out in several pieces and have some additional assorted debris come out of the wall.

  • rockinrocker wrote on August 17, 9:15 pm

    to lazy to build

  • andy4445 wrote on September 18, 12:39 am

    yay for monkey

  • JohnnyBlazeFilms wrote on September 22, 11:25 am

Dude that monkey is just creepy.

  • WarlockTakerProductiona (guest) wrote on October 4, 3:52 pm

It's cheaper and more realistic is you just buy one or two drywalls from Home Depot or Lowes or wherever since they are usually around like $5 each and get a jigsaw and carve into one side but not through completely and make some gashes and whatnot. It'll make the drywall weak enough o break through with no problems and noone gets hurt. I know cause we dd that for our short film Jake's Revenge and ti came out great.

  • IndyMogulMan wrote on October 11, 11:04 am

Hey, I have an idea for a way to improve your wall. When you are doing the front instead of cutting out one big jagged piece cut out a bunch of small ones so it looks more realistic and the pieces fly everywhere, cool right?
