first comment awesome, great episode and that armor looked great

  • Timmy"J" wrote on July 23, 1:31 pm

That was some cool armor. I like the duct tape tip. ITs good for me considering I currently have about 30 rolls of different color tape.

  • Ryan wrote on July 23, 2:45 pm

For a helmet, you could get some inspiration from this Boba Fett instructable:
    http://www.instructables.com/id/EB96DTBQ13ES9J6YYX/

  • Ryan wrote on July 23, 2:58 pm

If you have the extra time, I'd also suggest making the shoulder pads have some curved sections, same as the helmet.

  • Todd wrote on July 23, 5:03 pm

Excellent episode. The action scene at the end blew my mind! Now I have to go home and scrap my home-made plate mail hauberk.

  • DHermit wrote on July 23, 5:10 pm

The hand slapper wasn't done right. The guy on the bottom, green, got slapped, and he was supposed to be the one doing the slapping...

I have been a fan of Indymogul since the first episodes, and with the latest creation of costumes, I figure why stop a good thing?
I am interested in creating a werewolf movie but have idea how to make a realistic outfit....any ideas on how I can make one for cheap?

  • FleshFestFilms wrote on July 24, 5:29 am

Loved it, though dont think I could be bothered drilling all those holes!

  • Cherri Lollipop wrote on July 24, 9:38 am

Instead of using leather, why not use leatherette, aka: high quality vinyl - not only would it be cheaper, it comes in many colors, you wouldnt have to paint it, its pretty flexible and gosh darn I like it. You can buy scraps of it at your local fabric store.

As for the video, pretty cool. The only thing that would had made it better was if you had added your squirting blood fx when you stabbed yourself! :)

  • Adam Colas wrote on July 24, 2:20 pm

Dunno if you know, but the hand slap game was used in an "intense" fight scene with steven seagal in "on deadly ground".... i think you did it better. if you haven't seen it it's here.

(random other question....ummm..what do you do if you don't know what year it is to verify your not human?)

  • George Ala wrote on July 24, 9:35 pm

for this armor, is there any way you could make a samurai helmet to match the armor? I've thought of ideas, but you seem to be really really really good at this. Thanks a million.

  • Keith wrote on July 25, 1:27 pm

Hey you guys and Indy Mogul

  • Lex wrote on July 25, 3:39 pm

For over 2 years, in my free time when I could work on it, I have been trying to build a demonic suit of armor. Now with this, I can modified my designs and actualy complete it. Thank you!
Plus your other projects have given me better ways in my monster making.

  • DarrKadski wrote on July 25, 5:44 pm

Ok, since veryone seems to need to know how to stab someone I will tell you. First film your actor swinging the knife. Then Show both actors faces, then have one actor spray (with a squirt gun) up some fake blood. Then show him fall on his stomach with blood all over him.

By the way, awesome episode I'm going to build one now.

  • ErikBeck wrote on July 25, 5:53 pm

    DarrKadski,
I built a rain machine and it going to be the BFX project in a few weeks!

  • animefan099 wrote on July 27, 9:47 pm

I joined indymogul a few minutes ago after watching this episode. Erik, you are assume. You know, you remind me of a young mythbuster, bringing education and quality entertainment. I have to make some samurai armor for my films.

  • Scott wrote on July 28, 10:22 pm

Okay, so you've shown us how to make samurai armor.

Now what about stunt katanas? I would like to see a cheap way to make katanas that won't kill/cut you while filming a sword fighting scene.

  • IdiotFool wrote on July 29, 3:50 am

"Okay, so you've shown us how to make samurai armor.

Now what about stunt katanas? I would like to see a cheap way to make katanas that won't kill/cut you while filming a sword fighting scene. "

Umm- plastic swords? They're making them fairly realistic now. Or you could get a wooden katana, and paint it to look real. Or, you could use a "real" sword ($20 at a flea market) and grind the edge dull. Wooden sword would probably stand up the best, but the other two would likely look more real. It's up to your needs, I'd say.

    Example Toy Sword: http://www.amazon.com/Ninja-Sword-Halloween-Accessory-B389/dp/B000I8XYTS/ref=sr_1_1/102-7105232-8476946?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1185695312&sr=1-1

Now- for the Samurai Armor... where's the helmet!?

  • Scott wrote on July 29, 10:40 pm

Using metal swords no matter how dull are going to hurt like hell if it hits someone, the plastic ones won't hold up long enough for a battle scene, and the wooden ones are too thick and will still hurt like hell if someone is hit with it. Nice try though.

  • Rainer666 wrote on July 30, 9:35 pm

    They are all perfect-Last samurai

  • lordsambo wrote on July 31, 2:51 am

hey man really love the episode my dad and i are gonna start on some soon and um pleez dont anyone take my name offensivel yes i am white and my dogs name is sam and my friend started calling him sambo without knowing it was deragotory

  • Gegiretsu (on youtube) wrote on July 31, 8:45 pm

Hey I think this is cool I bet I could make a runescape parody with the armor because it looks awesome and it is cheap... but one thing I want to ask I've got a crappy camera from 2004 its like a camcorder... or something its a dxg... and I want to know if I can use greenscreen Fx on it... (its for a cosplay)

  • IdiotFool wrote on August 2, 5:53 pm

"Using metal swords no matter how dull are going to hurt like hell if it hits someone, the plastic ones won't hold up long enough for a battle scene, and the wooden ones are too thick and will still hurt like hell if someone is hit with it. Nice try though. "

The only other option, then, is don't get hit? Seriously, there's virtually nothing else you can do.

  • Scott wrote on August 2, 10:22 pm

Bullshit, you make fake swords! Is that so hard to understand?

  • IdiotFool wrote on August 4, 8:37 pm

Fake swords out of what? Plastic, metal, and wood are apparently all out of the question for you, so what else is there?

  • lordsambo wrote on August 4, 9:58 pm

What are the dimensions of the armor? I'm going to try to make one out of plastic trash cans so I want to know how many I may have to buy.

  • mbquizzer12 wrote on October 13, 4:29 pm

    Where are the full plans

  • Alex Ante wrote on October 15, 3:19 pm

Buy a safari hat. Then, buy a tin/brass garden urn (@ $16.) from pottery barn that is convex at the top (flairs out). Saw off the top half of urn. Pull open a little (bend wider to fit your hat) Then grind down the edges or sand carefully (wearing gloves), cover sharp edges with duct tape for safety reason). Then insert into the bottom of your safari hat. Use 2-ton epoxy glue to attach to safari hat interior. Then find a lamp shade finial (looks like a fancy point), glue to top of hat with epoxy glue. When all is dry, spray paint with gold paint. Looks great!

  • Chris G wrote on October 18, 4:12 pm

    The final product looks awesome, but without the building plans (especially on a really complex/time-consuming project like this) it's kinda hard to emulate... Not particularly sure where one would drill the holes in which pieces, or how you chose to put the thread through them. ^^;
