OMG! You guys are absolute special effects legends! I was getting to the stage where I was going actually shoot my actors for gunshot effects...

  • ErikBeck wrote on June 11, 7:10 pm

Glad everyone likes the pilot. I actually improved the bloodshooters later on and that design is represented in the "How to" blog post, so check it out. Can you tell I was sick? Shooting this episode went pretty much like this. [gross cough] "Action" [stumbles through lines] "cut" [more gross coughing] repeat!

  • Legalize__it wrote on June 11, 8:30 pm

hey i have an idea for you! No, forget that it is a challenge!!! To complete the clip in this episode where the guy gets shot over some mustard, it would be awsome to rig some kind of flash on the end of the barrel. And i dont want to hear no special effect crap, a real flash and even a bang, although i would edit over the bang with a real gunshot, so the bang is not that important. you can e-mail me at ImSublime4Starcraft@yahoo.com if you figure something out let me know.

  • Legalize__it wrote on June 11, 8:33 pm

damn now that i watch the video again, i notice you did have a flash. well were the hell can i get one of those guns at?

  • angela sauceda wrote on June 11, 9:06 pm

it was great to meet you guys at pixelodeon, you guys are awesome...

  • Aspiring-screenwriter-pat wrote on June 11, 10:01 pm

Cool. My challenge to you. Make one of those that creates a similar effect on bare skin.

  • Skippy wrote on June 11, 10:14 pm

i was just wondering, if you wanted a more squirting effect what would you do? My only guess is use a thinker "blood" or maybe pump the rig less.

  • the_alex wrote on June 12, 12:06 am

This is very well done, as are the rest of the episodes. I'm pretty happy that someone is doing something like this in plain English! you win.

  • DBXP wrote on June 12, 1:48 am

AH! Thats what a squib is...

Don't worry about answering it now on YouTube for me.

But anyway, this is awesome! I cannot wait to shoot my friends and have their blood just splurt out and NOT kill them!

...not like I've ever shot my friends before...DAMNIT!

  • Snake-Eyes wrote on June 12, 9:11 am

Awsome man. I'm going to use this in one of my shots I'm taking in my yard.

  • Anna wrote on June 12, 10:56 pm

I have a challenge for you. Do you think you could try to recreate the scene in "Back to the Future Part 3" in which the train takes a dive over the cliff and explodes? I know they used a 1/4 model in the actual movie. But what do you think you can do? Sorry I don't have the clip for you. BTW I love your stuff, and it's totally awesome. Good luck!

  • Anna wrote on June 12, 11:03 pm

oh yeah... I don't actually need that train-diving-over-cliff-thing... i just want to see what ya'll can do. (in case that was unclear)

  • narutospirit wrote on June 13, 1:45 pm

  • Zaphoid wrote on June 13, 3:43 pm

Great vids so far, liked the zombie one especially.
Here's some ideas, how about gunshot effects or exploding heads (with melons?), although both seem a little hard or messed up. Maybe knife stabbing or fake bodies for a hit and run scene.

  • john makles wrote on June 13, 4:14 pm

  • Justinsuperstar wrote on June 13, 8:21 pm

You're never going to want to risk your clothes. Best to get ones from Goodwill for very cheap and potentially ruin them instead of something you wear all the time!

  • punkandska66 wrote on June 13, 8:58 pm

me and my friends are trying to make a funny video, where we get on of us to dress in this devilish costume, and stand under a streetlight. we want to freak people out. is there any way tou could maybe replicate like a fireball that you can hold in your hand(even if your using a glove, its still good.)

  • Kyle Surowicz wrote on June 14, 12:29 am

Hey guys, I've seen you make put characters but, I "challenge" you yo make something that has animatronic qualities for lets say under $120 bucks (giving you the benefit of the doubt that parts may be pricy).
I'd love to see you guys do it!!

  • Ultrapeepi wrote on June 14, 12:35 am

Hello, love the videos. It's helping me a lot. I am making a war/comedy series and I was wondering if you could do a video about how to make it look like bullets are hitting the ground around the actor and some grenades? Thanks so much! Awesome stuff!

  • AKStudios wrote on June 14, 1:24 pm

The flash was post production people. It looks like a simple, but effective full screen fast flash. By the way great video, I designed a plan for an adaption of this! Also, please make a video on how to make fake snow, make a raining rig, and other weather effects. Thank you.

  • Bigdawg1222 wrote on June 14, 2:32 pm

first off this show rocks, ive been waiting for a free online show 2 help all of us future directors, but i challege the guys at backyard fx to do a show on how to make cheap and easy sets, like castles, futuristic hallways, space staions, planes, and stuff, so we can shoot in places that look real

  • whitstick wrote on June 14, 8:01 pm

oh weather would b cool 2 like that one guy said

  • Justinsuperstar wrote on June 14, 9:11 pm

A great way of making 'fake sets' is to use a green screen. Otherwise things get confusing and expensive!

  • bear1986 wrote on June 15, 12:37 am

Do you add the blood at the hose after you've pumped the air into it and capped it?

  • Blitz Haigen wrote on June 15, 8:56 am

Nicely done. This outta help me a lot, especially with all the zombie and ninja movies I plan to do. Thanks for this.

  • Duckie wrote on June 21, 9:03 am

Will it stain on bright colored shirts? Like light blue for example

  • ErikBeck wrote on June 21, 5:49 pm

There is a good chance you will stain a light colored shirt. So get some cheap clothes at a garage sale or thrift store.

  • SGriZZ wrote on June 25, 11:27 am

Probably the most useful effect so far. I like it. Great job.

  • Vegemighty wrote on June 26, 12:24 pm

Cool effect dudes. Gunshots are cool. But suppose I wanted a stab wound, or cut wound. How would I go about slicing wrists without really inflicting serious harm on the actor? Anyways you should do a segment of slashing and stabbing effects. Danke schon

  • Paweł from Poland wrote on June 27, 5:33 pm

Very nice stuff :) I've been wondering is it possible to make a very terrifying ghost? I know your style is to make people laugh (and it works) but I want to make a movie that will scare the shit out of everybody. It will be at low light conditions, with some computer graphics maybe.
Think about it. It would make a great episode ;)

  • Adam wrote on June 27, 7:28 pm

This stuff is awesome. You need to do one on how to make an exploding head. Now that would be sick.

    Hey,

I was watching how you guys made your gun shot wounds not bad but can I give
a suggestion? The blood was too liqidy try adding about a teaspoon of flour to
get it thicker. I only wanted to give that suggestion and ask if you can try to
make the Cursed Pirates from Pirates of the carribean Iknow it is all digital
but Iwas wondering if you could at least try.

    Thank you,

can you guys tell me a cheap and easy effect to replicate muzzle flashes

  • michael wrote on August 20, 7:16 pm

Erik i did a similar setup but mine requires much less undoing pieces and i found to be about 5 dollars cheaper than yours if you would like i can make a video of myself putting it together. Also one downside well it depends if you are looking for a little or a lot of gore but my set up shoots about a cup and a half full of fake blood also i use pieces of sponge and string to simulate the multiple parts that fall out after a gun shot!

  • Brandon wrote on August 29, 9:20 pm
